To check this out :
GO to google.com
search your keyword in ""
Example -- "keyword" --then press enter..
now google will show you results beneath this and it will show you competetion of your keywords in there .
If it show 24000 results..
Means 24000 websites are using same keyword as you are using in there website in there meta keywods...
So if less is the results shown by google for that keyword or phrase means brighter is the chance for you to rank your keyword faster on search as less competetion will be quite easy to beat rather then high competeion keywords...

Then copy the first website URL
now go to google planner for keyword research
types it down your first website address into:
"Your landing page " so for example I found "www.progressive.com" for car insurance
then click to get idea and then you will find out competetive keywords.
