State name in domain name

I am wondering what you guys think about a state abbreviation in a domain name. I want to register some names that are about accountants for example. So I think that stuff like

accountantsar.lll would be good. But there also different variations like:
accountantar.lll
araccountant.lll
araccountants.lll

So I don't know if the state name before or after makes better sense. If you spelled out the name it looks better state first then term. But with abbreviations I am thinking better term first state last. I don't know - what do you guys think? Have you guys tried to rank both?

  • hmmm... no thoughts on this one? I'm sure many of you domainers have thoughts and portfolios with state or city based domain names and a keyword.
  • Domain names are for your brand. Titles tags are for the How, Why, Where and When.
  • Kevin - are you sure you responded in the right thread? I'm talking about domain names. People brand their business sometimes by profession and location. If you're saying that location/where is in the titles only, I'll be glad to reimburse you for the domain names you registered like denver doctor and smilar.

      I've no clue what you're on about with the Denver Doctor thing.
  • No, it has not been turned off. In addition, people will respond to seeing the EMD. It's not like cheappantyhose.com and it is a domain name they would respect if they saw it and is used by other people in the business in other places.

    About the denver doctor thing, you're saying that denverdoctor.com is worth as much as johnsmithdoctor.com because the emd wouldn't make a difference. So I'm saying if you have any of those types of domains with a state or city in them, I'll take them off your hands for what you paid so you don't suffer a loss.

      And yes I'm saying that every domain no matter what you call it, has an equal chance of ranking for any word you wish. I don't do micro niche markets so I'd never have any business with such domains. Chasing keywords nobody cares about is not my thing.

    Last I heard state abbreviations are two letters, IMO .lll doesn't look right. I haven't even seen 3 letter state abbreviations used since the 1980's.

      Why not just go whole hog like gasbuddy.com, using every state, city, etc.
      that you can think of in the blank: _________gasprices.com

      I am still trying to get the concept. Why do real businesses not give a rat's
      behind about this domain stuff?
