Getting links: Software used to contact webmasters

Hello!

I own a blog, and today I received a «Dear Webmaster» email from a SEO company wanting to buy links. But the thing is that my email address isn't listed on my contact scheme (one has to go to the source code to find it) and the «Dear Webmaster» email had a unsubscribe link in the footer. So, I am sure that it is sent out automatically, but I don't know of any type of software that can be used for such purposes.

Have you heard of such software?

There's tools like Link Assistant, but SEO companies probably use scrapers to get data automatically from huge number of sites matching their target profile. If your email is anywhere on the site, or perhaps in the domain info, they can get it.

Once they've got the links, there's about a ton of email tools that can be used to send an email blast.
    Signature
Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

If the email is on your webpage all anyone has to do is search with Scrapebox, or even directly from Google search.

    Example:

Hmm. My email doesn't show up when googling; it's not visible without going into the source code, so tools relying on normal google searches won't find it.

It's hard to help without seeing the web page but it's probably not difficult to scrape If the email is in the HTML.

Does the email show up on the Google Cache (text version)?

Scrapebox will also scrape whois info.

The domain is private, so it's not from the whois. The email doesn't show up in the Google cache text version. The only place where it's visible is the source code. Here's a link – but, to everyone, please don't post the website's name in this thread.

If it's visible in the HTML source, it's within reach for those who are using a program to grab and analyze everything. They don't even bother to read the visible text on your page. There's no mystery here.

Be careful with this, as it doesn't comply with can-spam laws and could create a world of trouble for you.

I see an email on the contact form submit button pointing at a link building site domain email address.

I'm sure Scrapebox or similar software could find that email.

If its published there - or even somewhere, it isn't difficult to get. A simple Who. is search would reveal your address too.
