I am using lots of social sharing buttons (using a social sharing plugin for my wordpress blog) on my target pages. I made all them nofollow though. Just wanted to know if this hurts ranking or has any negative impact on my rankings?

I would stick them inside a script that Google is unlikely to be able to read. Otherwise you have a bunch of useless outbound links added to the page diluting the strength of your internal links.

Mike can you please tell me how can I wrap the OBLs inside of a Google Unreadable script like JavaScript? Is there any plugin or any technique you know for it?

You said you are using Wordpress. Some of the plugins are coded that way. You just have to find them.

First look at the Google Cache (text version) of the page with the social buttons, is it actually a problem? Do the links even show up?

Hey Yukon yes those links are showing on googles text only version! Here is the problem! As I am using a wordpress plugin and I have almost 0 knowledge on coding so I was looking for a plugin which will let me convert my HTML links whether inbound or outbound links from HTML to JavaScript links. But unfortunately I didnt find anyone. So can you recommend me any solution?

NB. I made sure all the social links are nofollow. But still I have doubt so want to remove them from google text only version too.

Using the no-follow tag on links does not allow you to do PR sculpting. The linkjuice is still taken from the source, but it's just not given to the destination.

For some js plugins for social. I think https://www.addthis.com/get/sharing is coded in js.

All I can suggest is search Wordpress plugins & try to view live demos Google cache (text version) to see If the links show up.

I haven't checked but I have a feeling addthis.com is a PR10 because of millions of embedded links from their widget code.

I don't see it posing much of a problem, really, but as Mike suggested, there are a handful of plugins that will remove any doubt you have.

You should have read the replies first. As Mike pointed out clearly, any outbound link will have an adverse effect on your "internal" linking by diluting their power towards the OBL of social site links.

Therefore WILL have a negative effect on your rankings.

      PR is divided X OBL - 15%

I have to say it gets a bit too much like "what's the big deal?"

Either your site is getting traffic or it's not. Whether social media buttons might bleed a little "juice" or not is usually a small nuance in the big scheme of things.

Obviously worth dealing with when it comes down to super smart optimisation with large amounts of traffic and awesome serps positions but in my experience, pretty negligible until you get to that point.

    And to the OP:

Just wanted to know if this hurts ranking or has any negative impact on my rankings?
If you really want to know - take them away and see what happens.

As you're a social demon - wonder if you're that bothered about rankings anyway?

I have lots of good rankings and I use social buttons. So they don't have much of an effect on rankings.

One way they could negatively effect your rankings is if the social buttons slow your site down. Part of G's ranking algo is site speed. And most of these SB plugins will slow your sites page loading down.

I found a free SB plugin that is designed for fast loading. Search in WP for RTSocial.

Those Sharing Buttons will NOT hurt your website! Moreover this will bring you traffic if your visitors like your post, they could share it with their friends and more and more people to visit your website. You just don't have to use many... Go with 5,6 -> The most popular sites!

Thank you for adding absolutely nothing to the conversation. So because you have social buttons on a site that gets traffic that automatically means they have no impact on your rankings?

Nowhere, did anyone say that having social buttons PREVENT having good rankings. The question was do they have an impact.

Again, lots of good rankings while using social sharing buttons proves nothing. Your rankings might very well be better without them.

You are completely wrong. Any outbound link is going to impact your rankings.

Of course they are outbound links. Just look at the source code.

Like I said, any outbound links you put on a page are going to dilute the strength of all the other links on the page. Add 5-10 social buttons and it will have a negative impact. How big of a negative impact depends on the SERPs. It might rank you 1-2 spots lower, 50 spots lower, or in the exact same spot you are now.

Now of course social share buttons can have a positive impact. People could share your contact, bring more traffic, and bring people who might link to you. That is the ideal situation. But the physical links themselves are diluting the strength of every link on your page. This is not a guess or opinion. It is how links work. Again, that is why you should have them coded in a script and unreadable by Google. Then you get the best of both worlds: the possibility of people sharing your content, without the worry of diluting your internal link structure.
