hi,

i wanted to know whether keyword rich domains still have the same relevance as they used to. i heard they don't. I've been out of the marketing game for a while. I planning to build some affiliate related sites that make use of domain related to the keywords i.e goldrings.com as an example and populate the sites with affiliate data related to only gold rings. you get the picture

I wondered also if it was still possible to make money doing this. I know most affiliate datafeeds contain information reused 100's if not 1000's of time with other sites. im not sure if google would consider sites like this to be junk sites. I want to know if there is anyone successful at doing this a few links to their sites might be handy.

thanks

It depends what you mean by "relevance". To the search engines? Or to the consumer? Two different answers.

To search engines, the exact match domain will have very little relevance for rankings. Your rankings will be determined much more by how visitor-friendly and visitor-valuable your website it, regardless of the domain.

To human searchers, an exact match domain has a lot of impact.
    • Click-through rates, more often than not, far exceed CTR of other types of domains.
    • EMDs are normally easy to understand and remember. This is an important psychological factor in the mind of a consumer and business owner.
    • EMDs convey an immediate message. It tells you, this site is about this specific topic.
    • An EMD is instantly recognized and therefore immediately usable to attract new business, just like Dell uses CloudComputing.com to capture traffic and redirect to their main site (Dell.com).

      zigzag1,

Gene Pimentel just gave you all the reasons why EMD remain alive and profitable.

Now, you just have to go and add Real Content, I mean Real Original Content to
your sites and Google will love you for it.
