If anyone can help me out here..

Im looking to make a really nice site covering a bunch of topics and making it look pretty would be ideal...

I understand the concept of siloing, but lost at the 3 deep link rule

Im just lost at this part, i see many sites like this for example:

Home & Garden Reviews (2 deep right)

So now we have a silo about home and garden.

so now we are home/silo
2 deep right...?

Now we pick a topic...lets say air conditioners

Best Air Conditioners - Top 3 Air Conditioner Reviews ( are we 2 or 3 deep now ??? :confused

Now are we 2 deep again, or we we considered 3 deep?

i think its 3 deep because we are coming from Home > Silo > Air-conditioner >
but would like to believe its only 2 deep haha.

Which would lead to 4 deep with a supporting article correct? Or am i mistaken.

Just because it isn't in the url doesn't mean its not going 4 deep right? If anyone can chime in and remove the fog from my head.

  • Stay away from link schemes like these. Just focus on navigation that works best for your users. If you get a linking opportunity, then just make sure that it gets linked to the appropriate deep link.

  • Its 3 levels deep due to some trickery

They somehow drop the top menu from the navigation once you get deeper into the site

No ready-made siloing solutions I know of can do that - so its likely that it was custom coded by a web design company specializing in silo site building
