Hi hi,

interesting case study I did do few day´s ago.

Two of my website was only getting around 7-800 visitor per month.

What I did do was changing theme from well known template to tweenty eleven theme.

After few day´s I see significant changes on visitor behavior.

Website one:
Bounce rate was 75-85%
Is now around 5%

Page view is 20 % more then before and traffic slowly going up ( but that is to early to trust that b.c of few days)

Website two:
Bounce rate was 85%
Is now around 53%

Page view not change so much

Theme and design matter.

Was the previous theme more minimalistic / clean or cluttered?

    Hahah good one

This is really interesting though. I've seen some case studies saying cluttered is better, yet others say its the other way around. It probably really depends on the niche (:

Somehow I have the idea this case study is completely flawed.

Going from 75-85% to 5%

The 5% is probably calculated based on a handful of visitors or taking into account the site owner being online at his site too often during the changes. Look at the traffic, about 25 visitors/day, visit your own site a dozen times or so, having a few poor days where you only had 10-15 visitors, in the weekends for example.

ps: Case studies should include the domains in question!

OP, could you please state how many days worth of statistics have you tracked to get those numbers? Before and after? Are you comparing Jan to Feb, last week to this week, or something else?

There's probably too little data, and numbers even out in the long run. If you only have 20 visitors a day you need to wait a bit to draw any conclusions.

Certainly theme can help, especially if the old one was garbage, but the first result seems too good to be true.

That's not much data. You also didn't mention what are you comparing it against.

There's also the fact that bounce rate depends on the kind of campaigns or content you're running. If there was PPC involved, or your link bait article suddenly got popular, the bounce rate might've been up in the past. Or it might've been constant over a long period, we don't really know.

If you added a clear branding, tagline, description or changed something else on the sites that may actually be the reason, not the theme change.

The kind of reply you gave to nik0 doesn't boost confidence to the methods of this study. You don't just say that someone is wrong, you show why and how they're wrong.

The bounce rate has been steady for over one year period and I have not change anything else. No PPC involved.
I did say to Niko he´s wrong b.c he was guessing owner to be online and that would lead to lower bounce rate.

It is correct that this is not based on many visitor but we just wait and see. I will report again.

As someone mention on that page speed has probably increased and that is correct.

Maybe it's just coincidence, maybe your target audience is so special that they like simple design. Anyway it's interesting.

I think that don´t matter and I´m not doing this to add bad review to some theme out there.
However I can say that is is premium theme.
