Does PPC data Appear as 'Organic' Data in Analytics

Hi guys

If PPC isn't hooked up to a client's analytics account, does any traffic they get from a PPC campaign go into analytics as ''Organic traffic"?

And if not, where do the stats / figures go? (Or is it just lost until such time as everything is connected correctly?

  • It goes in Keywords/Paid and you can see the details in the adwords tab (under Acquisition), but you need to link the accounts together (Analytics and Adwords)

    Yeah, I appreciate that's what happens if they're linked together. But my question is what happens when they're not?

    As in CLIENT is running a PPC campaign. And an SEO campaign.

    Let's just say they pay for 1000 clicks (visitors) via PPC in a month. And they get 4,000 organic searches via various key words, long tail, etc in that month.

    My question is, IF ANALYTICS AND ADWORDS ARE NOT CONNECTED - does it appear that they get 5,000 organic searches? As in, do the 1,000 visitors they acquired via PPC appear in analytics as 'organic' traffic as well as the real 'organic' traffic. And if not, are the 1,000 extra visits just ignored by analytics until analytics and adwords are actually connected?

    I'm trying to work out if the 5,000 uniques for the month is the real number or is it actually 4,000 (and the additional 1,000 in the 'organics' is just PPC data going in as 'organics' as analytics and adwords aren't connected?)

    • As already mentioned, Adwords traffic can be differentiated from other traffic in Google Analytics, whether Google Analytics is "connected" (linked) to an Adwords account or not.

      The advantage of linking the accounts is the ability to import performance data from Analytics into Adwords - bounce rate, pages / visit, avg. visit duration, conversions, etc. Useful information for analyzing what's working and what isn't.
