    Doing it yourself

Kind of a odd question, you want the best and you want it cheap?

Get what you pay for comes to mind.

Understood, I didnt expect that type of response.... but OK.

I have seen people on forums say things like SEO workers are in India for $150-200 a month. While this might sound like a lot of money to some including myself, I would consider it cheapo for SEO work.

What I don't know is were to find these SEO people and I don't know how many hours a day or how much SEO work they will do for $150-$200 a month.

I don't want to pay $1000 for nike shoes thats what I mean Ron.

Didn't mean to give you a hard time. Just sounded like so many, looking for something, for nothing. Not that it's the case here.

There are so many scammers out there in SEO. Last SEO guru I paid, was several years ago. After a referral from a trusted friend and checking him out it was about $1500, which was a deal, and I did all the work, was more a learning/coaching thing. I personally woud rather pay to learn how to do it then hire it our each time it was needed. Just my thoughts of course.

With that one time situtation, now I do it myself for anything I need.

I wouldn't have a clue who to refer, as I have'nt loked in sometime. I don't think SEO would something I would farm out like your talking, but that's me. Unless your talking about link building, that can be worth the paying the right service.

    Best and cheapest?

I have a sign in my office that reads as follow:

We do things 3 ways... you may choose any 2:

    1. Good
    2. Fast
    3. Cheap

If it's good and fast it won't be cheap. If it's
good and cheap it won't be fast. If it's fast and
    cheap it won't be good.

Please let us know how you want it done.

      Hi gotcha,

SEO is such a difficult beast.

At one end you have people who have the capability to charge a fortune, justifiably. This attracts others who stand alongside and try the same but can't justify it.

At the other end (cheap) you may find some 'diamonds in the rough,' BUT the only way you will ever know is if you actually know how to do it yourself, or someone who does - and the world is full of people who claim to know, but actually don't.

It's a minefield, which is why it's extremely lucrative.

The fundamentals can easily be summarized on a single sheet of A4.

But that blueprint is only reliable for about one second after it's written.

Therefore, to be able to continually produce a reliable blueprint, one needs to be constantly learning, monitoring, testing and understanding the 'state of play'. And whatever 'level' someone is at (in terms of the amount of data that they have access to and their ability to process this) should be totally in line with the level of customer that they are advising.

One thing that you need to be very careful of when dealing with some "SEO experts" is that they will use bots to generate fake traffic to your site. Fake traffic complete with ad clicks and more ... just no buyers and no good gains for you.

My very first "job" online was writing a disclaimer for a "traffic" bot and when I first heard about it I thought it was just the coolest thing in the world. Man, all that traffic with the click of a button I thought. About ten minutes into my research after I was accepted for the job I regretted taking it, regretted getting involved and realized it was nothing more than a simple scam. I intentionally left their EULA full of holes so that they could be gone after ... though I recently saw the very same program in a Giveaway event so it does not look like anybody has ever gone after them. I also see people all over the freelance sites selling "real and fake" traffic. I dare say over the last five years that these bots have become even more advanced. My humble opinion would be to be very careful about who and how you select for doing SEO work for you. I know all about being poor and not being able to afford all the neat little tools and software I want/need to automate my site and increase my income for the time being but I also know that if you get sandboxed with a site that has your name associated with it, you will be to blame no matter who you hired to do the work.

Given the options? Bum marketing is painfully slow but it is also relatively steady. Use the 150 bucks a month to get content generated (or create it yourself) and post it far and wide across the Internet. The article submission program I want costs a hundred bucks that I cannot afford so right now, I take every third day and submit all of my articles that have already been published on the major sites to all of the directories I can find. As my income increases, I will automate what I can and move on to the next phase. It has been my personal experience that SEO is one of the very few fields that has even more scammers than the writing arena.

Just my two cents for what it is worth. Slow and steady wins the race. Invest in SEO but you do not necessarily need a firm to do that.

For SEO I would never choose "cheap". I would research "best" and leave it at that. Workers in countries that do things on the cheap really have little vested interest in making sure the job is done right - since they can disappear quickly and not have to deal with the results of their shoddy work. Companies like that don't stand on their reputation for good work, they stand on their cheap prices.

In the meantime what you pay to get good SEO may leave your site heading straight for google hell.

I do m own SEO work, but if you must hire out I would find an individual or company that stands on their reputation and one that cannot afford to do a shite job. At least then you know if their work sends you in the wrong direction, a proper complaint will put them in a mind to fix the problem - as opposed to just disappearing.

What type of SEO are you referring to? There's onpage seo and offpage seo.

Most of your experienced VA's can do the basic offpage seo. I think that's what you are thinking "cheap rates" because of what's currently available out there.

Your onpage seo...that's a different story. Get someone that knows what they are doing because onpage seo will affect you a lot more than offpage will.

Point is...you can skate by cheaply for a while on offpage seo but leave it to the people that know what they are doing for your onpage seo.

I'd suggest staying away from packaged "seo services' because 99% of the time they outsource the work and you know whats done? 500 directory submissions ($5), some social bookmarking ($5 - $10), a little blog commenting ($10) and if you're really luck, a press release ($20) and they charge you $200 per month for that. You could just find the service providers they use (probably on digitalpoint) and get it all done for a much lower price AND make sure it's done right.

If you are here and in other forums reading and implementing what you read, you will not need to hire anyone. You can charge instead!

Even if you can get the best SEO service in the world, they will never promise you how long your website is going to stay at the 1st page, especially if the keyword phrase is highly competitive.

Because google is always updating and changing it's algorithm, you never know how long your website will stay at the 1st page of google.
