Relaunched my site which is a 10 year old domain and before, it was operating on a Windows server. It's now on a completely different (Linux) server and with just over 13,000 URLs/pages in the new site, am curious as to the best way to now start getting new backlinks and inbound links. The sitemap was submitted to Google Webmaster Tools about 5 weeks ago and almost all 13,000 URLs have been indexed within the site, along with about 4,000 various images. I did take care of all re-directs also....so want to be certain there is a good way to generate new backlinks. I have listed it in directories, DMOZ and written articles for it on blogs etc. but all of that is the boring and slow and tedious route. Can anyone make recommendations?

Go easy on the article submission sites, even cut that out as Google is penalizing many sites which purposefully try to link build using article farms/directories. Your site has a good many pages, so focus on sprucing up the content, freshening things up. Other than that, you might directly ask your site visitors to link back to you. So long as you are not offering an incentive or payment for the backlink, you should do well.

Your input is appreciated SamAdams. I am certainly not finished by a long shot. Advice well taken...and could never understand how "article submission" was so popular in the first place...to make any real placement or count, you would really need to have dozens, hundreds and into the thousands of published articles to make it count and really, when I look at it....how can anyone really be that prolific, Steve King couldn't even be that good. One aspect I do offer on my site is content, that auto-updates every 24 hours. Here is what I mean hxxp://www.danscartoons.com/web-comic. All the user does is pastes code into the HTML of the page they want my image to appear and it begins it's journey and it is guaranteed high quality humor (nothing vulgar) and 100% guaranteed family-friendly. That image then is an automatic backlink to my main index page.
I could show other sites it appears on....but don't want to abuse the system and have the powers-that-be erase me. I just wish I could find a way to get that offer out to the right people in a large readership. It is offered via that direct line of code and for word-press users, it is also offered as a plug-in.That is my only "pet project" that I can think of:

    #1. Offer a good product
#2. Keep it high quality and adds value to the user's site
#3. Creates instant link back to my site

The feature is controlled by a PHP script on my web host's server. I've offered it to big humor sites, but none of them seem interested. I'm certain if it had a "porn angle", it would be all over the web. I need to find some sort of special digital marketing expert but none seem to have advice. I keep looking! Thanks for your input though.....
