Of course you can rank without any schema.org microdata on your site. Most sites don't have any.

Very often obvious things like this get flagged for deletion. You can find the answer by typing less text in Google's search box. Maybe that's the reason for no answers.

To be honest I don't think those schema tags do a whole lot besides visual tweaks in the SERP descriptions.

Where to add and use of micro data

As of now, structured data has no added advantage. But many case studies reveal that it increases the CTR to a great extend.
