Help with website and multiple domain names

I have a website for my local contracting company.

I have a second website with it's own domain for a specific service that we do. But I would like to get rid of this second website and just have the domain point to a page on the main website.

Is this OK to do? If so, I assume I just put a 301 redirect into the htaccess of the second website?

FWIW, the second website has 5 pages, should I redirect each one of those or just let them die in 404 heaven? Right now the second website has just about no ranking at all.

I'd just point it to the website and do the redirects. It doesn't take that much effort to get it done even if the second site didn't rank.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

My main concern is that having a domain redirect to my website will hurt it's rankings. I read something about that in the past so I want to be sure before I do it. Thanks.

You can redirect using htaccess all old site (oldsite.net) sub-pages to homepage oldsite.net and then redirect oldsite.net to actualsite.net. This is how I do.

Great, as long as it won't hurt I will do it.

Can anyone help with the code I need to put into htaccess? I've seen a couple different ways and I am not sure what is the best protocol.
