I have done a setting in my Wordpress, so that whenever I publish a new post or update an existing post, WordPress automatically notifies the following site update services:

hxxp://rpc.pingomatic.com
hxxp://rpc.twingly.com
hxxp://api.feedster.com/ping
hxxp://api.moreover.com/RPC2
hxxp://api.moreover.com/ping
hxxp://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
hxxp://www.blogshares.com/rpc.php
hxxp://www.blogsnow.com/ping
hxxp://www.blogstreet.com/xrbin/xmlrpc.cgi
hxxp://bulkfeeds.net/rpc]bulkfeeds.net
hxxp://www.newsisfree.com/xmlrpctest.php
hxxp://ping.blo.gs
hxxp://ping.feedburner.com
hxxp://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
hxxp://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
hxxp://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger
hxxp://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
hxxp://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
hxxp://www.feedsubmitter.com
hxxp://blo.gs/ping.php
hxxp://www.pingerati.net
hxxp://www.pingmyblog.com
hxxp://geourl.org/ping
hxxp://ipings.com]ipings.com
hxxp://www.weblogalot.com/ping

My question now is, whether I am doing right by updating above services about publication of my new posts or I should not do it and let the search engines find my posts themselves?

Randomly sampling the list shows that there's several non-fuctional services, dropped domains, and duplicates. WF title feature shows three sites that clearly don't work any more.

Where did you get this list? Why do you think pinging random sites matters?

I am clearing my doubts? That is why I am asking, am I doing right by updating these services.

This is the list I got from some where about a year ago.

I think this is a waste of processor cycles and network resources. Well, maybe not for the likes of technocrati if you happen to get your blog listed there.

You should go through the list and see what kind of service answers to each domain.tld address. For some of the sites your best case scenario would be that the ping just doesn't go anywhere. You would not want your link on a garbage property such as the two "for sale" sites on that list. I would never try to ping something like that.

The ping links between feedster and ping.blo.gs are all completely dead. And that's just an example.

So what do you suggest? Should I stop doing this or just have few of them only? If yes, then can you please suggest me the list?

Does one really is required to update such services? Is it not a waste?

It's obviously a complete waste of time to ping an address that doesn't work any more. Why do I even need to repeat that?

There are some services that may do something if you ping them, but some are for the subscribers as I said before. For example, if you have an account in Feedburner the ping notifies them to fetch your blog feed now. (They'd fetch it in 30 minutes anyway.) Do you have an account in Feedburner? How about Technocrati?

When you've cleaned the list there's couple of services that answer to ping and seem fairly legit. Go and read their descriptions if you're into that kind of thing, I'm not going to do your work for you. I think the whole thing is quite pointless.

I have removed them all. I think it's better not to use them.
