My campaigns are terrible since...

Hi guys

Since google seems to have adopted a new "ads" icon next to the ads on the search result page, my ads are just not giving me any lead. Have you noticed the same thing?

I'm basically investing about 10k/month for the last 9 months, my cpc is around 15 and actually increased lately to about 19, before I was getting a lead for every ~$300 in average. Since 2 weeks, which for me looks like they have adopted it, I got 2 leads maybe (over 1k per lead), and my trafic got very low.

Any thoughts?

What's your tipping point before changing over to SEO? Why not do SEO now?

    • Actually the domain I am in is really competitive and on an SEO stand point I really have hard time to get in the first page of gg, even to get on google period. So in the meantime we've been working with adwords because we have results (well had) the same month, compared to SEO where if I invest 10k/month, may take months before I see the money back. Long story short, the 10k I invest is from the profit I make from adwords.

  • You could lower the CPC, split test new ads that may increase your CTR (the higher the CTR the lower the CPC). You could also move your campaigns to Bing and other second tier search engines. The volume will not be the same, but you may find leads there also.

If the "ad" image affected you this badly, perhaps your headline and text description are not grabbing enough attention. Have you split tested your ads so far?

    • Hello!

Yeah I split tested a lot, I still get hits but convert almost nothing since then, like if people tell themselves, it's an ad, eh, ok, let's click on it. Before we were getting clicks and when asking to people how they found us, they would mention we were first on gg!

    • Hi iwiber,

While it could be the new ads icon has cause you to get fewer clicks, it isn't likely that it would have increased your CPC. That is more likely due to increased competition, or a drop in your Quality Scores, also due to competition.

How have your ad positions changed? How about your Quality Scores? Do you track your QS and monitor for changes?

PPC advertising is based on a competitive auction, any change in the level of competition is going to have an effect on your results. Your competitors are likely testing, adapting, and improving on a constant basis. If you are in a competitive niche and not doing the same, it is likely that your performance will slip every month until you are squeezed out of the market.
