Does Backlinking many times on one forum work?

Say if I had 5,000 posts in here with my signature and link. Is it just as effective as having 5,000 links on 5,000 different pr4 sites?

Definitely yes. Probably the greater benefit of a high post count will be the clicks. From an SEO point of view, having more links will help some. What will also help is having links in threads that were recently updated.

I'm going to respectifully disagree here. While 5,000 backlinks from one site may be better than, say 100 backlinks, it definitely isn't the equal to 5,000 backlinks from 5,000 different PR4 sites.

Yea.....5,000 links spread across several sites is definitely going to give you a little more authority than 5,000 links from one site alone.

Sure, 5,000 links anyway you can get them will do some good, but it's ALWAYS good to have some diversity in your link building campaigns.

    I agree.

I think dvduval has a good point though - in terms of being seen as an authority and actually getting clicks from your signature than posting a lot in one (or a few) forums is better than posting once in 5,000 forums.

Of course, I guess that depends on the quality of your posts - if you are just posting one liners like "i agree" and "great post" than I guess that probably won't help you.

I've certainly done my share of both posting in many forums, and posting in a few big ones, and the big ones get it every time. I still post in smaller forums too, but not nearly as much. And one point I want to bring up is that just because you have 5000 posts if you become inactive in the forum, you can expect fewer newly indexed pages to contain your link, and some depreciation in value as a result.

Google looks at individual pages (not sites so much) and the PR of pages within those sites can vary greatly. The age of the domain is considered though.
