Having a Facebook, twitter, pintrest, G+, will it help you get lots of traffic?

If you have a Official facebook, pinterest, google plus, twitter, or other social media for your website and post new article links back to your site will this help increase your serp or help bring you more traffic to your site?

Is it better to use the Facebook comment plug in for your wordpress site or is it best to use something like Disqus so people can comment with other social media outlets?

I noticed places like ESPN use Facebook comments for articles, and other big news orgs as well. Does this bring more traffic to your blog.

Is social media needed now more than ever to compete and gain followers, since the Algorithm updates make it harder to rise in organic search without domain authority?

It won't help you in term of SERPS, but it can drive traffic, just depends on how active you are on those platforms.

Just posting and praying ain't working!

Social media platforms don't pass of any authority to your domain as it's all nofollow.

So what is social media good for? TRAFFIC, (if your active obvious) and perhaps that traffic might share your content with others and bring you new back links that do work to rise in the SERPS.

But don't underestimate how active you have to be on those platforms. With Facebook it's often so that you need to get friends, how you get them? From your website I suppose where they liked something, but if your site gets no traffic then hard to get friends/likes I guess.

With Twitter you can follow people and a certain % follows you back, Pinterest the same I suppose, for Facebook there's Facebook Ads, I would suggest that in case your site is interesting enough for such traffic.

I heard pintrest brings in a lot of traffic now, i never looked at it seems like you just post pictures? how does it transfer back to your website.

Should I do automatic posts to my facebook, twitter, google +, whenever I post a new article? I have a wordpress theme do you know of any good plugins?

Also which is better to use the facebook social plugin for article comments or use disqus?

I think you can include a link below your picture, or make the picture clickable or something, not sure, I never use it myself and when we do it for clients my VA's take care of it.

Automatic posts would be easy yes, but don't expect any traffic if you don't build up a following, I think there are tons of plugins that do just that.

No idea what's better, disqus or Facebook comments, I suppose people use Facebook to reduce spam

Or you posted articles somewhere, perhaps the same ones you repinned. Or Google algo just decided to give you bit of a boost so see if your sites warranted a better placement. Or you did something else. Google isn't really using social signals (according to Cutts et all).

Pinterest might be easier for Google to index than some other social media properties. Twitter is just awful, and I don't see any reason for them to index crap like social sharing sites. It's just a bunch of nofollow links on a page that don't have much useful content.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

Right now I'm just focusing on gaining traffic hoping it translate to more people seeing my articles and spreading it, maybe to gain some authority, but I just hope I don't get spam blogs linking back to me but I guess its inevitable just have to keep adding them to my disavow list everytime.

I think Twitter is very bad for traffic, mainly because most people use it on their cell phones and don't like to click links on there, but also when I search on Twitter if I see a link back I don't click it, people mainly just like reading short tweets and twiting it back like hearing peoples opinions on a hot subject.

What do you think of Google +? is that good too, it seems similar to Facebook but it doesn't get many comments like Facebook does.

I have a site in google news that is not getting traffic anymore, do you think its time to get a facebook or google + for it and other social media outlets to help boost my traffic? I only had a twitter but it never transferred much in traffic, probably a few clicked to my site from a twitter post.

Is it okay to have both or should I just pick one.

If you're thinking of SERP placements, Google+ is the only social media site with some clear way of influencing them. It might be mostly just an author image, but still. There's talk that good natural-looking Google+ circles may boost something somewhere. I've personally seen no clear indication that they do anything.

Finally someone who knows actual test that show the effect. Can you please link to the results you're talking about?

I'm not saying that social media links are completely worthless, just that they're not effective for SEO and the "social signals" explanation is completely bogus. Social media might be good for other reasons, but you need to use it intelligently and know what you're doing. Otherwise it's just a waste of time.

Social links (nofollow) are evaluated differently from do-follow links, but they do impact SERPs according to many tests.

Websites get about 15% of referral traffic from Facebook, 5% from Pinterest, and 1% traffic from Twitter as the end of 2013 according to a shareaholic report. How much traffic your website can get from social media sites depends on the niche of the site and the size of the follower base on each social media sites. B2C sites (shopping sites) get more traffic from Pinterest and Facebook, B2B sites will get more traffic from slideshare, Linkedin and Twitter.

It's not easy to build a large social follower base either. Both Facebook and Twitter offer paid ads to gain fans/followers, but there ins't much value in Facebook fan base since the organic reach is just a few percent. It costs over a dollar to acquire a fan sometimes.

A better strategy is to focus on just one social media site and build a large follower base.

Another option is to join social sharing communities (viralcontentbuzz, justretweet, triberr and easyretweet) to reach a larger audience.

Social media is definitely important but more so for branding and direct traffic generation/networking rather than SEO benefits.

I have the feeling that lots of links showing on people profiles from retweeting your stuff might help. Also the trafic boost might help by showing your site is worthy to Google.

Google offcial word seems to be social meida wont help. But i notice a trend for sites trending well on social media to boost high in the SERPS regardless.

yeah they say it won't help the Serps, but getting traffic from social media helps you get traffic to your site to help with adsense. I read some guy a year ago who got tons of traffic from social media and later people were posting those links they saw on the social media to other forums, and it helped get them links. I dont get why google changed their rankings, I miss the days when whoever posted the article first or had the exact term got the top spot or first page, now only major websites get top spots. So its pretty useless to even start a website from scratch unless you have money, the days of those home bloggers who got rich from just starting a blog and getting organic traffic are long gone it seems.
