Hey Guys, I am working really hard to create great content for my website and it takes a lot of my time. So I am looking to hire someone from odesk (most Likely) to build legit links for me.

The only thing is, I am quite new to the SEO game and I would like your opinions on what I should be looking for in a good link builder and the questions I should ask him (and the answers I should be looking for) before I hire him.

I know that he has to be building links with site that are relatively connected to my niche and avoid using spammy links. But other then that I'm not really sure.
I would greatly appreciate if you guys could help me with this.

Thanks a lot in advance.

One of the first questions I would ask them is.

"How many links on average could you build for me per month?"

And if they give you a number they've FAILED, and you can move onto the next.

Well, what i am going to tell you might make you angry but i would say you can't trust on anyone other than your self link building is not that much difficult, It looks like you've got the basic knowledge in building the links i.e. according to your niche, i would like to add the DA and PA into it, means while you are building the link look for the Domain Authority and Page Authority of the site. Keep going on with the link building steadily and you are going to the you're self on the top. Just don't trust on third party for building link as i am sure on one side they will say our work is quality one but is definitely going to ditch you on the back.

Better to go for Social Sharing than Link building. You will definitely get top Rank in Google. My opinion is to hire a person who have experience in Link Building and Social Sharing as well.

You're asking a totally legit question.. the challenge with answering it is that there is SO much to cover. To begin with, how comfortable are you with the possibility of a manual action (aka manual penalty) from Google? I ask because no matter who you hire to do your SEO you're always at risk (yes the risk varies from strategy-to-strategy) of algorithmic or manually-applied penalties.

How could this happen, you ask?

It's really hard and expensive to cover 100% of your tracks when you're doing SEO, so a competitor could snoop around, see what you're up to, and snitch on you. Your SEO person could also buy links from a network that gets pinched by Google, and they trace things back to you. You could also end up hiring an SEO who does not take into consideration the SEO strategies of the other top 9 ranking companies for your keyword(s). Effective strategies that don't blend in will stick out like a sore thumb to the trained eye.

As for algorithmic penalties... I'm shocked (well, not really) at how many clients I help who just recently fired their "SEO expert", and when I look at the backlink profiles, I swear it's like the previous SEO thinks its still 2009. Stuff has changed... drastically. So I would also ask your SEO person to explain how SEO has changed over the years and what they have done to adapt. If they can't explain themselves in a way that makes sense to you, I wouldn't hire them.

You want to find someone who can explain all of this to you and help you weight the risks vs. rewards.

PS -- Even "white hat" SEO agencies are technically bending the rules, because they're marketing with the intention of manipulating Google's search results. Anyone who tells you "don't worry, you're 100% safe with me because I'm a white hat" is full of it and you should question their honesty.

By the way, the reason you should ditch an SEO who tries to sell you on the # of links he/she builds for you a month is because that metric is garbage in today's SEO climate. The # of links built doesn't matter at all.. it's all about their relevance and power.
