I am about to create my first content marketing website. I figured I would just create a blog within my topic. I am considering using blogger. Is this a good/bad idea? Any advice?

Content marketing website means in the future you are looking at making profits and monetizing the website. You can start with blogger but i would rather go with a self hosted website on a platform like wordpress.org. Buy a unique domain for your website instead of using the blogspot domains.

yup. Wordpress should be the ultimate goal. What you can do is use blogger for the timebeing and then host your blogger (since it is on subdomain) on your own domain (you have to pay for that).

The big issue with blogger isn't the domain name; it's that you won't technically own the website since you don't own the hosting. And, moving a site from blogger to wordpress is a real pain so I wouldn't suggest that.

Just get your own hosting, domain and build a site. Not blogger.

use blogger and if you see profit coming in then you can always use the blogger site as a feeder site to your main site for SEO and traffic

My gosh people, why aim for the bottom? Holy cow.

Now, what site/platform do you think google owns, and is ranked around #15 in
      worldwide traffic?

Blogspot is an excellent choice. 2nd best would be to code your sites.

But then, if your aim is WP, no wonder some of you fail..it's all
related. WP can work, but man, as a goal??!?!?!?!

First of all, not everyone knows how to code and not everyone wants a garbage blogspot subdomain that doesn't belong to you. There are just several instances where blogger is a better option such as building temporary parasite websites that don't really last long.

Second, WP is a large and well-known CMS platform that has useful tools in it that simplify a large amount of work. Plugins come to use all the time. There are THOUSANDS of ppl that make good money by hosting all their stuff on WP.

There are also other CMS platforms that you can use.

A self hosted domain named will ALWAYS trump a free "blog" site. In spite of the fact that a free blog site might be easier to rank in some circumstances.

I would go with a new domain name as the best keywords are already used (the domain name!) and be sure to choose the niche carefully and your keywords too!

If you can't afford hosting or domain name, you can choose wordpress.com or a tumblr.com subdomain blog. Either one will have good credibility with Google, similar to Blogger and less likely to get deleted.

If you choose Blogger you should definitely get your own domain, and also save a copy of your blog on your PC each time you make a change on it, just in case Blogger decides to delete your blog for some reason.

Everything depends on your budget, but you must know that the more assets you control on your business the better, if for whatever reason blogger erases your blog you are lost, if you control your blog in your own domain that wont happen

It sort of matters what you want to use blogger sites for. I know blackhat seo fellas that make bank each month by building parasite sites (sites that make $$ for a limited time and then die off) on Google Sites. If you are looking to build a brandable domain, it would be better to have your own domain.

      just my 2 cents.

No, Blogger is not so good platform for building a popular blog by which you can make huge money. You can choose WordPress which is helps you to get keyword ranking first because WordPress is well SEO optimized or you can optimizeyour WordPress blog SEO easily and quickly. Further you will get a lot of benefits if you use WordPress.

I was talking about parasite websites. Parasite websites only last for about a month or so and then they go down. Why buy a domain for parasites when you can use a free service?

WP is not SEO optimized until you SEO optimize it.

I have some old blogspot sites that I don't update very often. I just noticed blogspot allows internal 301 redirects & robots.txt file. Never thought I would see that happen.

Assuming you publish really good articles about your products, not just brief descriptions or over views, then any site you publish on (self hosted or Blogger) could be relevant. It's not where you publish, but what you publish that counts.

Add your page on blogger can be a great way to organize content . To make managing pages easier, we redesigned the ‘Pages’ tab in the Blogger dashboard to make it look and feel more like something you’re already familiar with: managing posts.

Free blogs like blogger blogs are good for getting your content ranked but if you want to monitize your blog and add affilaite links etc... Blogger does not allow you to do this. They will also automatically put ads on your blog related to your content.

This will get your visitors clicking away from your content and going else where. Wordpress and hosting would be your best bet, or there are plenty of viral blogging networks hitting the market place now.
