I've heard comments that bing is no big deal, just a flash in the pan that will never be able to compete with the big G.

I don't know about their prospects but I sure do hope they get big! Here's why: On a recent thread about bing I mentioned that I was number 1 for many of the major keywords in my niche. In Google I'm not even close.

Now I don't why bing is loving me so much but it sure is paying off... My stats are showing high numbers of visitors from bing. But best of all, they're buying too!

It seems that being number 1 in the searches not only increases traffic (duh!) but positions you as an authority and boosts conversion.

I'm praying for a bing takeover!

No, they will never overtake Google, I don't think, but that doesn't mean it can't be used effectively for internet marketers. For example, some people make a killing using MSN (or will it be Bing now?) PPC that don't do too well with Google. So, it doesn't really matter if it overtakes Google, or not, in fact you may want it to stay behind Google, so you have less people to compete with there if you're successful. If it gets bigger than Google, than all those that aren't paying attention to it now are going to start paying more attention to it. So why not just pray that it stays the way it is? You have to look at the big picture and not think conventionally.

Bing won't take over, at best they will just fragment the market a little bit further.

    What ever happened to cuil?

Was really hoping for a big Google competition! Lol. But I dont think they will be even half as good as Google. Google is the foundation of everything right now. Indeed Google is able to turn their company into a household name. They wont be losing, ever.

Like many others, I believe Google's reign will last for many years. I am not dismissing the others, such as Bing, Yahoo! and Alta Vista, but it seems unlikely they will make major inroads when it comes to dethroning Google.

No body noted that you said, "Best of all, they're buying too".

Its been well documented that Bing users are buyers, granted less traffic then Google though.

The problem with praying that Bing will get bigger and steal some of Googles users will mean that your conversion rates will fall in comparison.

Bing attracts an altogether different type of user then Google does when it comes to buying.

I have read that there are a higher proportion of searches in Bing and Yahoo that have buying intent, compared to Google. As long as this remains constant, you shouldn't be too worried about the search volumes in Bing, because what matters ultimately is whether the traffic you attract there converts and monetizes well, right?

I hope Bing will compete for a bigger marketshare of all online searches. I am not keen on Google controlling everything we do online basically. They need some real competition it will be better for all of us.

Bing will have to take over Yahoo before it can take over Google.

Believe it or not though, I have the hardest time getting listed on Bing. Google and Yahoo not a problem, but I can't get Bing to index my sites.

Bing has some major problems for example one of them is slow indexing new contents and new domains. Its very important in my opinion and when people search on it, they don't get fresh results as Google. So most people use Google.

    They are business partners.

I hope bing takes a bite out of google. I hate how G owns everything.
