New URLs Vs Old URLs

Hi Warriors,

We have created new URLs for my entire website around 900 pges. Now new URLs are in live.

We have generated new XML site map and updated in Google and Bing Webmaster tools.

But in Google search results are showing not found and 404 errors.

How much time will take to rank new URLs in search engines???

Please suggest me best thing to get new URLs in to search engines???

  • don't know about time, really but If I were you I would totally make 301s for all old urls to all new urls because that way you wouldn't get those 404s
  • Had the same issue recently.
    Built new site from old CMS to WordPress changing all then links.
    Redirect all the old links to the relevant places
    Submitted site maps to Google for new structure.
    After about a week we saw the most of the SERPS had been updated to the new URL's

    Just give it time but you should really 301 the old link or you will lose a lot of traffic and rankings.

    • Yeah you should 301 the links and it will be sorted and you won't need to worry about it. This should be easily accomplished with php or .htaccess.

    Thanks for your reply's. Now we are working on redirecting old URLs in to new URLs with the help of 301 redirection.
