Hi,

When searching for blogs in my niche, either some haven't been updated recently and I can't find enough to comment on.

So was curious, is it ok to do blog commenting outside your niche to those sites with high page rank and dofollow backlinks?

Thanks.

There is no problem to comment leaving your site URL while commenting on other niche blogs.

Just take care to comment something relevant to the topic of the blog post or article.

Agreed! Sometimes I get comments on my blog from people who leave their own site URL which has nothing to do with my niche. As long as the comment is thoughtful and relevant to the respective post, I have no problems with it.

It's generic comments like "great post" or "thank you for the information" that I flag as spam.

  • As long as you're commenting with a lot of thought and adding value to the page, you'll be fine. You want a diverse set of comments whenever possible.

The guidelines: Add value, and don't spam.
Niche relevant comments are far better in the eyes of google but you can get great results from other niches.

You can comment on blogs from other niches, but I wouldn`t bother.. extend your niche a bit finding similar niches, that would be the best next step to take.

When you post comments on blogs from your niche you kill two birds with one stone: a) your blog may get direct targeted traffic b) SEO

In your case, you can't do that. The case a) disappears and the potential ROI is diminished. You'll post only for the sake of SEO. Since blog commenting takes time - unless you post spammy comments like "great work!"- then you should ask yourself, "Does it pay?"

Why not using the same amount of time by doing something more useful? The time isn't unlimited, is it? ;-) For example, focus on social media marketing.

Yes you can, but it does minimal for your SEO. That's because Google looks both at quantity, quality and relevancy of your backlinks when determining your SERPs.

Sure. Just make sure you're picking posts that are moderated, not spammed, etc. And make sure you're leaving comments that you'd approve on YOUR blogs. (Don't use any automated tools to leave comments.)

Make sure the comment adds value, so other people who read those blog comments may even click on your site to generate some traffic

Well its not 100% fine to comment outside your niche nor only blog comments would give you what you want for link building. Try making a good link tree comprising of different places i.e. blogs, social bookmarks, referral sites, news, articles and other places where your url and content can be helpful for publc. Do not rely only on blog comments and commenting out of your niche is not a healthy choice so be aware.

Well, not a very good idea though. If you promote a weight loss product for example on a blog about SEO, the only thing you can do is to get a few backlinks that won't help you much... Be sure to use a general anchor text then -> Like your name!!! Just don't spam!!!

Commenting on blogs outside your niche is not bad as long as you are commenting to build relationships with other bloggers. But if your sole purpose for commenting is to drive traffic, then better to comment on niche related blogs, especially commentluv enabled blogs because your targeted visitors are there. If you leave a thoughtful comment on that blog with with a link of your latest post, you will get some visitors click through to your blog, if your comment and the title stands out.

You can check Find The Luv to find list of blogs to comment on, there are many of them there and they are often updated.

  • Yes, it is perfectly fine to comment on blogs that are not in your specific niche. Be careful not to make your comment appear as spam. That is, make a valuable, on topic contribution to the blog. If the blog page has a high PR and provides a dofollow link, then it will help your SEO, regardless of the niche the blog post is in (although relevant is always better, posting on blogs outside of your site's niche doesn't hurt.
