Did I Screw Up My New Website or It Is Google Dance?

Hi All,

After doing a lot of research and work hours I was able to pull up a wordpress website for myself. Its a PMD domain website in health niche and sells CB product. I choose the primary keyword such as only one site is on page one who can give tough competition. Rest nine are piggy back websites.

I made sure to do, proper onpage SEO and currently have two Posts of approx 800 words each. (Its a 20 days old site). In beginning, I came to rank in 63 position and few days after it vanished from top 500.

It again came back in 3 days to 72 position. And the I started link building. I made sure to add links only from high authority health sites and health edu sites and gov sites. Also in few popular health forums.

I also submitted in few web 2.0 with original content. I made sure to build links at a slow pace of 5-10 every day.

And the position came to 30 when I recorded day before yesterday.

Today after checking I am scared like anything as it has come down to postion 83.

I have limited experience in SEO, so would like some help in knowing if I have screwed up my website somehow or it's just google is dancing and playing tricks with my mind.

Thanks Friends!

Sounds like a perfect example of the Google "dance". You can't tell for sure in one day.

I have a fairly new site too (6 months I've been working on it), and the rankings still occasionally drop 10-12 spots and come back better then ever. I wouldn't worry too much for now

  • Any movement for the first 2-3 weeks should be attributed to the Google dance. After that, it should start to settle down over time.

I guess your research neglected to reveal that you can't force google
to rank a site, no matter what people tell you.

You are most likely vastly underestimating your "competition" as well.

I have no idea who teaches this crap, why people still
toss a site up, see it won't rank, and immediately start thinking
      all sorts of google-nonsense.

You should be scared alright. It's scary that in 2014 this still goes
      on.

        Hi Paul,

Thanks for the insight. But I would really like to look into it in a different way. I really didn't mean to force google to rank my site. And yes I might have underestimated the competition, but that does not mean I am going to give up.

As I said, I am new and have limited experience "as of now" with SEO, since I used to provide different kind of service. I have a catch up to do.

The thing I got scared for was I saw google dance in the first few days, but it was by a small no of spots for the primary keywords. So when I saw it vary by a higher no, I was a little bit worried thinking I did something wrong unknowingly.

        Thanks!

Surely it's"Google Dance".Your website is new as you mentioned 20 days old,so it will take sometime maybe 3-6 weeks to stable its spot in Google.

The fact that your site is so small can be the reason behind your jumping rankings, perhaps in combination with over monetizing.

Google doesn't really like brand new 2 page affiliate sites.

I suppose all your high authority links are blog comments?

Maybe your site stabilizes at some point but when I read all this most probably not!

          Hi Nik,

          Thanks for communicating.

          1) Not all the high authority links are blog comment links. They are from .edu and .gov direct links with obl<7

From similar niche High Authority Blogs Comments.

          From Similar niche Profiles Links

          Etc

Also a varied Anchor Text distribution

Mostly I am trying to keep it normal and not trying to hurry in any way.

          2) You are correct it is definitely a small site, but I don't plan to keep it that way, as am adding more content to it every week.

Please let me know your thoughts what you think would help!

Still reads like a bunch of spam links, blog comments + profiles.

.edu/.gov doesn't carry any additional value btw, don't believe everything you read online, especially not from people selling them.

Your prime focus should be to build out the site, then later you can worry about link building!

Definitely quit with your current link building activities, it ain't doing any good!

By the sounds of it, your site seems to be new enough for the google dance and it may be best to sit tight as google balances you out.

  • DON'T WAIT to build out your site before you deploy your linking strategy!

It sounds as if someone is trying to discourage you, so that you will turn to THEM for their services.

You CAN get a BRAND NEW site ranking fast, trust me. Fast in SEO is very slow in paid marketing. Keep in mind, winning in SEO is not all about SEO.

You get enough of the RIGHT juice pointing to that baaaaaad baby, Google WILL rank it!

    Cheers, enjoy your holidays!
