I'm in a competitive niche, ranked #10 and #11 for two medium keywords. I've been as high as #4 for both, but nothing I've done as of late seems to get my site to move up the SERPs. My site is PR3/PA46/DA37 and is actually more authoritative than most of the competition (a few are on authoritative domains like reddit, youtube, but most are other websites like mine). I have intentions of reaching #1 for both, so I'm curious: what kinds of links are people buying/using in 2013-2014 to secure Top 3 positions? I feel like where I'm at now, a 200 High PR Homepage package would seal the deal but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Thoughts?

  • Have you tried spying on your competitors' backlinks (those sites in the top 3 positions for your targeted keywords) and then trying to place backlinks to your site on their backlink sources. Reverse engineering a site is a very, very effective strategy. You can use a tool like backlinkwatch or seospyglass to do this. Once you find the sources that provide your competitors with a high PR, dofollow backlink, try to get your backlinks on those pages!

Backlinks and content may help you to step up and reach on desirable place. Find out competitors' backlinks sources is a good idea. You should try to generate backlinks from those sources or similar sites. Recently, I came through a blog post about Google's ranking factors. So it may help you. backlink[dot]com/google-ranking-factors

Yep, high PR homepage links will seal the deal.

You can also give a look at first 3 guys ranking and check their link profile. That will give you a better idea of how much you need exactly.

If you are ready to buy links, then just use Ahrefs to find out all high authority inbound links to the sites that are ranking on top for those keywords.

Think I can guarantee, that you will find a lot of "high quality'" links that are paid links, go ahead and purchase those links .

Analyze your competitor, you can spy on his links using Ahrefs.. maybe he uses some paid links inclusion that's why some of them outranked you.
