PBN based on WP sites - Don't Under Estimate THis

When setting up a private network with Wordpress as CMS you have to be damn careful which themes you use.

It's great to have an almost unlimited selection of free themes, but did you know that some themes are so buggy that it results in 1000's or even 10000's of dynamic pages.

In other words you post a blog post with exact anchor text link and before you know it you have 10000 links coming from that domain and at risk of a penalty caused by Penguin due to anchor optimization.

    I have some sites with thousands of same anchor-text across the entire sites, no penalties.

    Are you trying to rank your PBN pages?

      Nope.

      Internal anchor text is treated differently then external links.

        Maybe I misunderstood OP, so you mean the external links on the PBN pointing out to money pages/domains? If that's what you mean I agree be careful with unnecessary site wide external links.

        Whenever I use any WP theme I usually edit the heck out of it anyways, tweaking the entire site for SEO. I delete junk like Tag pages etc... from the theme source files/code.

    @watkip, and noindex.

    @yukon, removing tags page template from the theme doesn't stop WordPress to create the actual tag pages, it will just using other template from it's hierarchy.

      Are you also stripping wordpress footer link(s) of free themes?

        Don't remove Category pages, that's the mother of each group of relevant keywords/pages.
        • Home > Category > Page or Post

        If you have the 3 page URL structure setup with the Category in the middle & breadcrumb on the Page/Post then you'll end up with extra clickable hyperlinks in Google SERPs directly below the SERP title, example:
        • SERP title here
        • cars.com > Ford > Mustang
        • SERP description here

        The URL would look like:
        • hxxp://cars.com/ford/mustang

        Yes, also remove unnecessary links, especially unnecessary OBLs (Outbound Links).

      That's why I also said I edit the theme.

      You can control every single thing you want on a WP theme. WP Tag pages are useless redundant pages.

        I'm fully agree on the tag pages redundancy and we shouldn't use that taxonomy at all. I just wanted to confirm on how deep you need to go with theme edit to completely remove the tag pages.

        If you just remove tag.php or archive.php files that won't stop WordPress from creating the actual pages, it will use index.php for example. But if you want to remove the tag pages all together you can simply deregister the taxonomy.

        Code:
        function unregister_taxonomy(){
            register_taxonomy('post_tag', array());
        }
        add_action('init', 'unregister_taxonomy');

          I just use Yoast SEO plugin for that, real easy to disable it, and otherwise just don't add tags at all.

      There are 1000's of themes out there, just try and deactivate it again if it doesn't show your links and on to the next one, within 1 minute you'll find a theme that does show hyper links on home/category pages.

    Yes some are crappy as you mentioned, but this crapiness and bugs actually mean a natural looking profile. Think about the blogger that uses these themes and don't realize that, it's just part of the game of SEO.

    As long as the theme is secure, which you'll have more problems with, then use it.

    I think it is not a big problem for you but worst for theme publisher who very often place the links in the footer to their own sites (((: A lot of site-wide backlinks on same anchor, very bad idea (((:
