How Many Links From 1 Network Site?

I just want to be clear about this before I do anymore work.

I bought a site 2 years ago and did some clean backlinking to it. Its pr 2 now and has 74 pages of well written, niche relevant content.

The site is on a separate hosting account and I'm not sure why I never used it for backlinks. I think my original plan at the time was to rank the site, but another site ranked instead and I never really did much more work to it.

Its been ranking on pages 2 & 3 of Google for the past year now. It has 0 outbound links and I'd like to put my link on the site.

Do I just put 1 naked url link on the homepage?

And do I basically ignore the other 74 pages of content?

Part of me feels like its a waste to ignore all the backpages, but at the same time I know its not good to have a lot of links from 1 site.

thanks guys

    Hi,

Each link from each page is counted differently. With that said, if you will be using it to place outbound links, its good to make sure that the content it is linking to is relevant to the page you are linking from. Another great way to take advantage of your pages is to use your sidebar widget if you've built your site on Wordpress. Whatever is placed on the sidebar will be on every page.

However, again when I link out to external content it's usually that the content of the page I am linking from is very relevant to the outbound content. If content is NOT relevant your providing outbound links to resources that are not relevant.

Let me ask you this, what kind of outbound link are you doing like ad, content, banner, etc.

    Thanks AskAnAffiliate,

I appreciate the reply. I've been waiting on this for hours now and I'm glad SOMEONE finally responded.

What I did was place 1 outbound link directly in the content of the homepage. Towards the end of the content. And I used a naked url format like "if you need more information on xxxx topic feel free to visit http://www.mywebsite.com.

Almost every single page on the site is relevant to every page on my site. Since they both cover the same primary niche and many of the same sub topics.

I just don't know how many links is too many. Because there's a lot of back pages that cover the same topics of the backpages on the site I'm trying to rank. So I don't know if I should link all of those relevant back pages to the backpages on my site, or if Googles gonna look at that and say "this dudes got 70+ links from this 1 site, all the links go to the same site... lets penalize him".

Like I'm sure there's a lot of people on here who have their own private networks. I'm curious if you guys place just 1 link on the home page, or if you try to milk the entire site and all its backpages?

    Hi,

Thanks for the explanation and I was just about to log off so I'm glad I got this message right now so I can answer it.

    Let's get started...

First don't use a naked URL because you'll have a better chance ranking for keywords if your link contains the keyword. Put something like this, if you need more information then please read my article on "keyword". The keyword should be the link and this will serve as an anchor text. Google will then know what keyword the page is relevant to.

Next, you have to be made aware that the more links you use the more you are depleting the PR of your site. If the PR is 3 and you have 70 links, then you are essentially dividing out the PR3 among 70 links which knocks down the value of each link.

Here is an awesome video that was made by Matt Cutts of Google who answers your question: How many links on a page should we have? Is there a limit?

This video actually talks about what your question is and could provide some more information.

Next, I don't think that Google will penalize you for having 70+ links pointing to one site because many people actually do this. The funny thing is many adult websites all point videos from one site to another and they do very well. Just be careful to NOT:

    1) Keep using the same keyword because this will increase your keyword density and can be considered keyword stuffing.

    2) Make sure the content is relevant to the anchor text or the keyword in the link

    3) Try and NOT place to many people as mentioned its not doing you any good. You are dividing up the PR of the website within all the links pointing out. It doesn't matter how many you place more or less because the PR will either be divided into less or more external links.

On another note, Google has shifted a lot of their effort on content quality and freshness. This means the best content gets the most juice and has a better chance of going viral on social networks. Freshness just means how often new content is added to your website which helps with faster indexing.

I hope I answered your questions, if not please let me know and we can continue this discussion.

    Thanks,

Well, do remember the relevancy before putting the naked link I would say if there is some relevancy between two site go forward with it.

Your question is very good. Look if you want to increase the website traffic for your website then you can do the reply more than 5 to 6 times if the website having good website traffic.
Yes Google will only read the one backlinks for all those because the link is coming from a single website with the same IP address.
Google not only look the website but also look the IP address of the website from which your backlinks is coming so if possible then try to make the backlinks from different IP's that would be the very plus point for your website.
    Thanks..!!!

I put 1-2 links in a blog post on the homepage. I go with one link that uses "keywords" as the anchor text and one naked URL.

I would not put links on all your 74 pages.

What I do is use a menu to route the link juice from all the 74 pages to your homepage and one other page. On that one other page, you then link out to your money site.

This allows you to still benefit from the link juice of the 74 pages and keeps you from looking like an obvious site that just exists to boost another site.
