Keyword help question(review site)

Hi I'm trying to get the concept. I don't know how to explain this question and/concern. I'll give it a try....

Keyword is product name model#. Gets a good amount of searches to promote. However the competition is very tough.

However when I add review or reviews to product name model #, product name model # review/reviews the competition looks to be very easy BUT my question is product name model # review/reviews doesn't get search volume.

So the optimized keyword would be product name model # review/reviews which doesn't get searches but product name model # does.

Can someone shed some light on this. Will I get any traffic with product name model # review/reviews?

    you could have an educated guess at your EPC and CTR to see potential revenue for the search volume

    I know exactly what you mean macher, I would also like to know the answer to this as I run a review site also.

      Yes. I just did some research on a product name model # and the competition is strong. I noticed at the bottom on the SERP that there are related searches and one of the related searches is product name model # reviews. I checked the exact match search volume on product name model # reviews and there no searches. Did competition analysis and product name model # reviews looks easy to rank; 8PR0's, 8 sites have less than 10 Backlinks, most pages are optimized for product name model # but none optimized for product name model # reviews.

      That's not the answer I'm looking for. It's a school of thought from some internet marketers that you add review or reviews to product name model #. My question is how will you get traffic if product name model # review/reviews don't get searches? Or is adding review/reviews won't work because of no searches?

    Yes, you can get traffic by using the word "review" or "reviews" in your target keyword even if that phrase does not get much traffic.

    I'll give you an example. I have a review on one of my sites where the phrase "model name/# review" gets only 10 exact searches a month.

    The page, however, gets the 5th most highest landing page hits of all the posts on the site with 590 visitors in the past 30 days to just that one post.

    The post ranks #1 for the "review" phrase but also ranks on the first page for just "model name/#".

    Part of the explanation is that no matter what you do you're probably not really just optimizing for that one target keyword. Unless you're writing very little content your review has the opportunity to rank for a variety of keywords - many of which won't include the word "review" or "reviews" at all even though that's the keyword that caught your attention.

    If I look at Google Webmaster Tools I can find 38 different keywords bringing traffic to my site that include a reference to this product and only 4 of them include the word "review" or "reviews" although the phrase "model name/# review" was my original target keyword.

    Other phrases bringing traffic include things like "model name/#", "model name/# price", "model name/# compare", "model name/# for sale", and longer variations of the product name.

    While I didn't set out to rank for those phrases the post does anyway because those are important pieces of my content.

    If you write a thorough review you can rank for lots of phrases and even if all those phrases only get a little bit of traffic each month it all adds up to a lot more traffic than you might expect.

    One way to find out what kind of REAL traffic potential a product has is to go to the Google Keyword Planner and do a search for the model name/#. Then put just the model # in the Include Terms filter. This will tell the Keyword Planner to only return results that closely match your keyword AND include your model #. That will give you some idea of other phrases for which you might rank.

    Model names and #s are tricky in the Keyword Planner so you can run that same exercise by using different parts of the product name and model information in the Include Terms filter and you'll probably find more results.

    You can also go to Ubersuggest.org (which scrapes Google Suggest), enter the product information, get the results, take the resulting list and run it through the Keyword Planner and then sort through the results to identify the buying phrases people might use to search for your review and then see the search volume associated with those phrases.

    You may find you rank for the lesser searched and less competitive "review/reviews" keyword early but over time you can rank for more and more phrases including just the product name/# keyword. Having quality content helps so you might not see this happen if you have a short review that doesn't contain anything unique for the end consumer.

      So is your suggestion an 'extreme review' optimizing the post as product name model # review/reviews then extreme review it?

      I've suggest to try similar tool Keyword Suggestion Tool where you can retrieve and compare results within national domains supported by Google and other search engines (Bing, Yahoo, Amazon).

    Neat tool - thanks! The different results from each of the search results is interesting. For some phrases I get more results from one search engine than another but it certainly gives you more to work with. You ought to be able to put together a pretty thorough keyword list between all those sources, plus Uber, plus the Google Keyword Planner.
