That all depends on how competitive the keyword is!

If there's 2 million results then it will be hard, if there's 2,000 results then it will be easy.

The fact that you managed to get a .com domain suggests that it's not competitive at all.

The domain and a few genuine posts will get you on the first page of Google within days. It's your job to keep it there as it will slip down if you don't throw some backlinks at it.

More info required if we are to make a more calculated guess, i.e. searches per month, results in Google, etc.

I agree. First page is not that difficult depending on the competition. Assess not only the competing number of sites, but also the number of backlinks..

It really doesn't matter what your domain name is when it comes to ranking in the search engines. For all I care, your domain could be turnleft.com, but if you get enough anchor text and backlinks to your website with "turn right" then when people search for "turn right" they will more than likely see your website.

I'm assuming you've already done the research to see how much interest this keyword gets, but the next thing to do is check for exact results and "intitle" results to really see how much competition you have.

The next part is to do a little on-page SEO, but then a LOT of off-page SEO, which includes social media marketing, article marketing, video marketing, blogging and other backlinking methods.

I thought that the domain name was extremely important for SEO purposes.

its not your domain, your domain NAME (if at all) plays only a VERY tiny role in the ranking.

Its the content of your site - and then the SEO you do for the site.

The best way to go about is you start doing keyword research and get an idea about how many searches this KW actually gets...and how many competing sites are there.

A keyword like "car insurance" has millions of searches and zillions of competing sites, so ranking a site for "car insurance" would be ultimately 1000x more difficult than a site about "pink ladybugs"

And, no, the sitename is (almost) not important at all. It helps, but its not that important.

Domain name is not important for SEO purposes, BUTTTTTTT it plays a critical role for visitors.

Imagine this, you register eggrolls.com, but you're trying to rank for "spring rolls". Sure, you can rank for it, but people who search for "spring roll" will ignore you. And if they do visit your website, they just want to know who the idiot is.

Then imagine "shoes.com" ranking for "new dvd releases". Yeah, even if shoes.com ranked for the keyword, people wouldn't be interested. So in regards to SEO, it really doesn't matter much as long as there is enough backlinks and anchor text pointing back to it.

In regards to your visitors though, it may be a good idea to have a relevant domain name to the keywords. Makes sense?

I register relevant domain names simply because I could use the keyword as the site's title and description. It's easier to do that than giving 'PegasusInc.com' a title like "The Best Eggrolls in the Business" or some crap like that. It could work, but not my approach.

I'd like to be able to help you actually figure out what it will take to get on page one for your term, but just from a new relevant keyword domain name there isn't much I can tell you specifically for ranking.

What I can advise is that you look at the number and quality of backlinks of your top ten competitors for that term.

Search to see how many actual competing pages you have using the allintitle: keyword

Optimize your sites' onpage seo for that keyword (doesnt take long)

Build quality backlinks to your site with relevant anchor text (longer regular process)
