Getting Traffic to Articles on E-Commerce Sites?

My drop-shipping site was lacking real content so I ended up adding 4x 1500 word articles and 10x 500 word articles about two weeks ago.

I haven't had a single hit to any of the pages with articles yet, what are some ways I can promote these pages and my site as a whole?

I read the that content was the best way to get traffic, but I don't exactly understand how unless I build links and try to rank those specific pages?

  • Here are some suggestions.:

    1) Create a press release for the new content.

    2) Create backlinks to the press release.

    3) Create a Youtube video with the content. Have someone do voice over. Place the article as description. Put a link from Youtube to your blog. Create backlinks to the Youtube page.

    4) Hire people to place your link on relevant forums.

    5) Create PDFs of your content. Submit PDF ro PDF sharing site.

    6) Most importantly, make sure the content is engaging and solves reader's problem. Without it, you will not get any attraction.

  • Lets start with your domain age....

New or old domain? New domains won't rank well or quickly unless there's literally no competition. So.. That's a good question to start with...

It's great that you have articles but are they constructed well or just text-block-soup on a page?

Are they in a separate subdirectory?
If so, is it a part of primary navigation?
Are they well linked to internally?
Do they have images with key'd alt text?

All sorts of stuff to do or improve on here before you even start with links, although I'm a big, huge, raging fan of links.... Trust me there.

The point is, an article itself isn't a magic bullet. It's the tapestry so to say.... Construction, keywords and links are the real factors.
  • New domain, registered in January 2014. They are well written articles, very readable, all written by myself.

I put them all in the "Articles & Reviews" section of my site, it's just a page within my wordpress site. They link back to the products/categories listed in the article.

    Images all ALT filled out.

I will go through the on-page SEO and look at everything. Thanks for the replies!

    • Good, you're past the 90 day holding pattern Google likes to put new domains in.

That's not exactly what I meant, but good to hear. I was talking about subheadings and what not as opposed to just a brick of text.

Great, but you need to internally link to them if you want them to be seen as having priority in your site. Hence my question about if they were included in primary navigation... It doesn't sound like it though.

You should pay close attention to crawlability, content portioning, thematic development, internal link structure, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not knocking you - it sounds like you've got the groundwork down but there's some polishing up that should be done.

      Lastly,
  • QWE and Godoveryou pretty much have it covered here. Only thing I would ad is that you have to promote your content. It won't just magically generate traffic. You need links to your content.

Some other tips are to great product guides based on product categories, and, establish yourself as an expert in your field. Promote on blogs and forums in your niche.

  • Apparently your site isn't doing well in Google for organic search. It'll take a while to build a few quality links to help organic search traffic. Before that, try:

    1) forum posts - you'll be able to find some forum threads related to drop-shipping.
    2) blog comments.
