Internal Linking Tactics?

Hey;

I read a post the other day and i can't recall it's location but it was suggesting that internal linking helps Google determine page relevance and ranking. It stated that within your own document surrounding your keywords/phrases to hyper link them... if the phrase was 'learn seo' one should use Learn Seo instead.. my question is

1) is this true
2) would you link to the same page this information is being read on???

  • Yes internal linking helps in SEO.

    I would not link to the same document ... but people do. It's probably not the end of the world.

    I think if you really need to be linking to the same destination, you're probably doing it all wrong to begin with. It would be a 0 value gain.

    Whatever you gain in terms of having that extra internal anchor text link. You will lose on a sitewide level as there is now 1 more extra link to get a share of the PR on every page you do it on.
  • But you increase crawlability, co-occurence and co-citation by having those links as well as more evenly distributing your pagerank internally for pages you want to rank.

  • Don't link for Google. Link for visitors. Wikipedia is a great example of internal linking. Try to find at least 3 internal links per page. Dig through your blog archives to find older content that needs attention.
