I'm just curious where most of you manage to find new SEO clients for your SEO businesses. Obviously here on the WF we have WSO threads but I'm curious what other avenues people have taken for advertising.

My thoughts have been:
-Other IM based forums
-Facebook
#clients #find #seo

Only once. A long time ago, did I take on a client found through a webmaster forum. And as I suspected from the beginning, it turned out to be a complete waste of time.

The problem you will find with leads from such forums. Is the craploads of misinformation they read already has their heads stuffed with garbage. Such forums are stuffed with so many poor SEO backlinking services, that the client will probably end up undermining the work you are doing. By purchasing shit like $37 Link Packages and $99 Public Blog Network subscriptions, either prior or during you working with them.

No matter what you tell them, they inevitably end up getting sucked into all the bs. In SEO most of the time people are their own worst enemies by buying into 90% of it. But they're not entirely to blame.

These forums are also stuffed with professional sales people. Some of the worlds finest. And in comes the unsuspecting business owner with a pocket full of cash and a dream.

Since when did people think the American Dream only costs $69 a month?

For the most part yeah pretty much. It's a very rare occurrence to see a "quality" SEO provider sell services in WSO form. Very rare is an understatement, like 1 in a thousand.

Show me one SEO service provider in there, who's techniques of doing SEO have not already been targeted by Google. I look in that section and I see that people are still living in 2010.

Oh come on, who doesn't use expired domains to rank clients.

Sure they are shared, but what to expect for like 100 bucks/month, can't even buy 1 solid domain for that, yeah well a half decent domain then, tough to rank with 1 link from 1 domain, and then there needs content to be written and money to be made, impossible really.

That's why I try to limit the OBL, let the posts remain on the homepage at least 8 weeks these days, 50% of the links even permanent on the homepage and later on in my service when the client ranks after let's say 3 months we add hyper relevant domains that we boost with links from the other network to pass some additional juice to maintain rankings. Ton of IP diversity, totally abandon SEO hostings, lot of CMS diversity, separate niche relevant networks, block all crawlers.

Some people say it's easy to trace such network down with reverse IP engineering and outbound link scrapers but definitely not so easy when all crawler services are blocked, and you would have to handpick all network domains from all those back link profiles from people. The idea is that they follow some links to a blog network site, then get all the back links from the money sites that it link to. And then you have one HUGE collection of 1 million backlinks, enjoy sorting that out

Can't really get better then that for the money.

**** I did it again, turned this into a sales thread, just can't leave it sometimes

It's extremely easy to find such a network.

You cannot block all the bots. SpyGlass, for example, has never released the name of their bot. I have not found anyone yet that has figured it out and blocked them. There are a few other services out there like that too.

Handpicking the network sites out of a link profile is not as hard as you might think. I can find the majority of them just by looking at the URLs. When I see something like www.WarrenIn2012.com/how-to-train-your-dog that is pretty obvious that it was a bought domain and repurposed.

You are completely restricted to what you can offer for sale by two things. The market of buyers with misinformation filled heads your trying to sell to. And your own inability to find powerful domains.

I hinted to you before that you where looking in the wrong place and in a very inefficient way. I've recently become very reluctant to even discuss such topics publicly anymore. Original thought shared publicly seems to get eaten up and destroyed way too fast by IM'ers. Not that, that's referring to anything I've ever shared.

SEO is a market, not a niche. Warrior forum is a niche, not a market. Most SEO service providers I know, don't have WF accounts. In my experience I'd even go so far to say that most employees of SEO companies have probably never even heard of WF.

I've never seen my technique offered there.

I once caught a fish this big.....

You're talking about "techniques". Yes, you can pretty much find any of the supposedly good techniques offered on these forums, as well as their *******ized IM versions. What you usually don't see is premium-level full-service SEO, but for several fairly obvious reasons. Almost nobody on these forums wants to order something like that, and the sellers don't want their product seen near the other crap products.

I'm not the most experienced "warrior" or search engine optimizer, but the stuff there has gotten me pretty jaded and disillusioned in the few months I've been on this forum. You only need to have a fair understanding of the underlying mechanisms to see through the absurd claims and shitty products. I've seen couple of SEO WSOs that might've delivered on the promises.

Of course the "WSO format" is one of the problems. It seems that people want to be lied to. You see the BS being passed as a legit product, and start to believe yourself.

Added: back to the original topic topic, there's a recent thread with almost identical title. There might've been some good suggestions there.

I used to do media buys at webmaster / web design blogs, my conversions were insane poor, despite low prices. I think I didn't sell a single subscription in $500 worth advertising.

Probably I would've been better of with email capture.

If you don't mind cold calling, Google is good for finding potential clients. Just type a local niche like "dallas tx painter" or "alexandria va window replacement". Go to page 3 or page 4 in Google and contact these businesses explaining why they are missing out on leads and sales by ranking so low for their money keywords.

They probably are new to SEO so explain to them why ranking on page 1 equals more exposure and more money. This also works on Yahoo! and Bing

You'd be surprised how much word of mouth carries in SEO if you get results. It's that first client that's tough, so typically asking around your friends to see who might need help is a starting point. Someone always has some side business somewhere you can do some cheap work for, get results, and then springboard that to more jobs. Word will spread.

I would go with a splash page and then effective eye-catching short tutorial what the customer will receive if using my services. You will be even more successful if you can rank your website for words like, best seo services or anything like this. This could be a great benefit (to show them in real time that your services are really good!)

    Referrals 70%

I got my first client from Elance and got my present client through guru.com. I have written lot of exams and achieved top scores in the tests to prove my skill level. After getting few projects I found an effective way to outsource the job and make more easy commission. Doing everything on my own eats my time and affects my productivity. By outsourcing and training my freelancers I can plan more and get more business.

Did you try craigslist? I grabbed few clients for my friend from craigslist only. Just create an email template and leave a room for 2 to 3 custom lines as per the query. Enter into the gigs section and you will find plenty of the projects.

PS: Try to find the gigs in highly trafficked cities. You can search for these in Google.

I don't sell SEO anymore but the most effective way of finding new clients for anything is referrals, hands down.

You've got to set it a good referral strategy properly, but once you've got a good system in place you are unstoppable.

All that remains is to get that barrier to the yes as low as possible - by using guarantees, social proof, low cost initial offers and other strategies. Front load clients and make most of the money on the backend.

If you are starting out - cold email to highly targeted prospects.

I secured my first 2 consulting clients with cold email and no website. Not recommended to have no website, it made it harder on me but hey I got it done.

For me, it's just having a conversation with my friends. From there, they let their friends know that own a business about me and how they need an online presence. And then it's just a snowball effect from there. It's a lot of fun. I'll go grab beers with my clients and just "hang out with them" and talk business as well.

At the beginning, the new members of our SEO Network were coming solely from webmaster forums (not surprisingly).
After the members (website owners) realised that this is a new concept and the Network is successfully working, then the "word of mouth" became prominent.

    Hi,
as I had some experiences on that topic. I just want to put my input here also - How to get paying Customers for SEO services.

Actually I was focusing on the "REAL WORLD" providing "ONLINE SERVICES".
Reals World -> For example = Local Business.

    1. Before starting it is very important to setup a professional website that represents your service and the problem that you can solve for your potential customers (just let me know if you need some examples)

    2. Now, you focus on marketing and getting some new customers. In general you should define your marketing message that should be fast & repeatable (also when you are dreaming ;-) ).
Example: "I can help companies to double their customers thanks to positioning these companies to Google's top 5 positions"

    3. Google in the Local Pages or use the Yellow Pages to check out the ads. Follow up via phone and using your marketing message. Act like a consultant and ask questions. Listen what they really need to have and try to sell them a package that fits.

Another great marketing strategy is using Postcard Marketing. (just tell me and I will forward you some tips how to setup in the right way to get some local business leads).

Try to approach a long term relation where you get continous income. For example: 1000$ per month for the whole service.
