Weird message from Google's Webmaster Tools - is this hurting my rankings?

I randomly got this message from Webmaster tools regarding my SSL certificate:
......................
Site host name, https://wew.xxxx.com, does not match your SSL certificate Subject Name

We have noticed that the host name of your site, https://wew.xxxx.com, does not match any of the "Subject Names" in your SSL certificate, which were:

*.hostname.com
hostname.com
As a result, many web browsers will block users from accessing your site, or display a security warning message when your site is accessed.

Recommended action
To correct this problem, please get a new SSL certificate by a Certificate Authority (CA) with a "Subject Name" or "Subject Alternative DNS Names" that matches your host name.

Note the wew instead of www

I emailed my host and they told me that my SSL certificate was fine and its the same way it's always been and I didnt have to do anything and they didnt need to fix it, however this got me worried that google may be penalizing my site because it thinks something is wrong with it. I've had a ton of trouble ranking this site - been doing solid SEO for 4 years on it and we're barely at the bottom of page 1. I've gone through 3 "professional big SEO companies" as well with little luck making it any further than 7th on the first page. Is this weird error with the SSL certificate holding the site back or does this have nothing to do with ranking the site?
