Are links for the same top level domain worth more than others?

Has anyone seen any evidence of links from the same top level domain being worth more than links from different TLDs (everything else being equal - PR - DA - relevance - OBL and so on).

eg. Links from a .co.uk to a .co.uk are worth more than .com links to a .co.uk

I have never seen this myself. But i remember reading this in theory -- that geo relevance matters. To what degree? Only google can tell. In fact, these degrees are getting changed all the time, aren't they? Right now, Amit Singhal and his team are calling the shots. Tomorrow, it will be another team.

It is better to have a very diverse link profile so that our site's success is not dependent on the whims of engineers whose ideas of a " perfect and clean " link profile change many times over their term
