Duplicate content question

Hi,

I've closed down one website, and now I want to take all the content from that website and paste it into a newly created website. This content won't be available on the old links anymore.

In the example above, would Google consider my content on a new website duplicate, even though it's no longer available on my older website, or penalize me in any other way?

Thanks.

Well, first try checking how many sites copies your content, I am sure you have removed all the links and all but you can't take down the content copied by the others without having some DMCA or...... i.e. some other person might copied your content and the time you remove the content the person copied your content will now have the authority. Means before going forward check your content using the quotes "" and if all looks good then you are good to move the content to the new site because Google will see it as the new content. But if somebody else have copied it and you take down your content then Google will see you content as the copied one.

  • @promo87,

    Thanks for the response!

Can anybody confirm whether what promo87 said is exactly the case?

    • Yes. Basically, if Google finds specific content on "Website A" first, and then finds the exact same content on "Website B", the content on "Website A" is given priority, and the content on "Website B" is placed in Google's supplemental index.

  • Absolutely. Duplicate content. EXACTly like strategic seo services said. The only way to avoid any form of duplicate content penalty in this case is to, ah, create some new content.

Even if you consider it a pain in the you-know-what, it's worth it in the long run.

    Good luck!
  • All you have to do is to permanent rediret your old website to the new one.
In that case google wouldn't have any problem and also you would not lost all the authority you had builted with your previous website.
  • Old site has some bad links pointed at it as I bought a bad domain (didn't do my research back in the day), and I don't want to deal with it or associate any of my other websites with it. And I'd rather just start a new website in an hour than try to get those backlinks removed, which can take weeks.

Okay, so what's the conclusion then? Would that kind of content be considered as duplicate or not?

To repeat the premise of the story: I have 2 new sites both with new domains. I'm closing 1st site and launching the 2nd site. I want to take content from the 1st site and paste it in the 2nd site. The content has been permanently removed from the 1st site already. I haven't seen any other websites duplicating my content; there are just some links on Web 2.0 sites pointed at pages on the 1st site, but I don't think that matters.

OP reads like you have an old site & new site.

If both sites are new & not established simply drop the first domain & paste the content on the new site. There's no point in even considering a 301 redirect from the first site to the second site If there's no link profiles to work with.

In other words, it's no big deal, move the content to the new site.

If the old site is gone the server will probably return some 500-5 response meaning the content is gone and then wherever else it was found first is usually given presidence in the SERPs but like said here any content can be outranked with SEO. Just make sure to set an author to your content and connect the site to your Google+ account so you are the first verified author of it.
  • Ofcourse , please customized something and added into new website .
  • Yes you can add it but first check is anywhere same content available or not.
But what benefits you will get by using old content, i suggest edit that content and add some more informative content in it before using.
