Article submissions and similar?

Hey,

So Matt Cutts said that article submissions, directory submissions, guest blogging and everything related to that is dead and should not be used as a technique to rank your website.

Having said that, Matt Cutts works for Google, which - ironically - isn't always the best source.

Now, based on your own experience and knowledge guys, is guest blogging really dead? Do article directories not provide any value whatsoever, and possibly even hinder your website's ranking?

I have a bunch of decent articles ready to submit to websites like Ezines, HowTos, HubPages, etc. as well as for guest posts, if anybody would have them (which isn't the case anymore, as I found out). I don't want to post them on the website as they don't fit well within what I'm trying to do here. How can I best use these articles to increase my rankings?

Thanks!

When you say "decent articles", what does that mean? Content that is of real value to real people will always be worth something to your SEO efforts.

If your articles are of real value to your niche, find where that niche congregates online. Post or make your content accessible there in any way you can. Ezines, Hubpages, etc may not be that place. The effectiveness of those places has been diminishing for a long while. I would argue that they are not dead, but certainly less effective. Again, find where your target market is congregating online, and focus there.

    Good luck.

    @thebert,

    Thanks for the response.

Those articles (around 1000-1500 words, a few about 2000) do carry some informational value. Some more, some less, but I think they're worth to be published. They're not SEO-optimized; just a natural write-up.

As to posting "in the right place", this is exactly why I created this thread. Can anybody point me towards that "right place" - what would be the perfect example of such a thing?

Ezines, guest blogging and other article directories was what popped into my head first. Is posting articles on forums just for additional hits (w/ nofollow links) a viable option? Although it doesn't look appealing to me as I kind of want to get the best out of them, preferably to pass some juice to my new site rather than just traffic.

    Article marketing IS dead.

I received a penalty for a goarticles.com article (and others as well)

Avoid the traditional old-school article marketing websites (ezine included)

What makes you think that you were penalized in part for posting on goarticles specifically?

The exact truth about article submission still remains skeptical, because I got un-natural warning for having a link from EzineArticles few months back. But I see many of my friends having links from ezine and other popular article directories and they are doing good no warning of any sort. Its still a mystery.

So I suggest you to post the article on your own blog and promote it. Instead of sharing on useless article sites.

I dont think using any article directories for one article would cause a problem, if you are publishing one unique article on EZA or go articles, then receiving an un natural warning there has to be more to the story then that. If you were using the same article to hundreds of directories that would be a different story. I have old articles on EZA and a lot of other directories and never had any problems.

Look at when you got the warning, then look at some link analysis tool like majesticseo or ahrefs and look at new links that you got before that time period up to a month previous see if you got a lot of links coming in besides just the link from the article directory.

i don't think articel directory is dead, the penalty will happen if you over optimised, spam, or you always used many same anchor texts

You nailed it. Article directories are not the problem in themselves, but the technique used while submitting is the problem.. If you submit one article to tons of different article directory then you are bound to have problems. One unique article submitted to one article directory will still carry some SEO value.

Having said that, I agree these are not the best way to gain backlinks, as there are other websites where you can post your articles, use Google to find those sites in your niche, you can also use search strings like - keyword "write for us", to find websites in your niche that are accepting guest post, but please be aware of sites that are publishing almost everything (they will get penalized in near future).

That is the one of Matt Cutts' lie about SEO /SE Ranking factor. If article submission or other common submission on link building is dead then why google give High Pr on those sites, also my website rank on google by using only common submission?
It depends on you if you will listen to me, but for me as Senior SEO, Is is good to have default SEO specialy link building method. you can continue link building using article sites and also putting meta tags on your website even matt cutts says that meta tags and common submission is dead. remember, it is good to have default SEO techniques. you may know you didn't notice that you are top on the serp on other search engine doing default SEO right?
There are many search engine and google have its DANCE. google will surely change his algorithm into the future

    I am agreed with renart145,

So, If your article CONTENT is unique and relevant to your Subject / Title, so go on and submit your articles in your niche category.

For increase traffic so can do Link Building and Social Media as well.

Create Business Profile and Local listing submission is also good.
Another 1 thing you can do for generate more traffic is to POST your website Link in DMOZ, Google Places, Yelp, and other local listing sties.
