changing content of a high PR expired domain

ok im not sure how to ask as i dont know what would be my question be. So id rather ask by an example.

I want to build a website for catering, ill be buying a high PR (pr5 as an example) expired domain and the domain name is foodforthought.com (another example) the domain was all about a quotes and phrases.

So foodforthought.com which was a quotes and phrases before can i use it for my catering website? doesnt have anything to do with catering on its previous usage, so will the rank of that particular domain retain?

additional info if you are still confused about my question, I will be using the domain name as my website, like i wont be registering a new domain. Ill use that domain instead. So i was thinking if i use that domain which is a quotes and phrases before, will its rank retain as im going to make it a catering related website? which is obviously no connection on its past.

Is this even worth the investment by buying an expired domain for the sake of getting an immediate high PR domain?

Sorry for my bad english as well but somehow i know people here are smart.

    Yes pretty confusing. If I am understanding you right the answer is no. Rankings are determined by links and content. Just buying a PR5 domain will not insure you will rank

    Yes, is the short answer. If the backlinks to the domain you buy stay in place the site will start to rank for the new content.

    I had to reread your post a couple of times to understand what you were asking.

    It doesn't matter that it was a quotes page in it's previous life, as long as the backlinks are still live then the domain will be passing link juice to your site about catering.

    If you happen to find an expired domain in your same niche some would argue that it's even better. However, as long as the backlinks are still live you can use it as a PBN site and help your other sites rank.

    I've seen many examples of this where, XYZpolicedepartment.com (now a PBN blog) links out to a blog about "how to make money online". I do this with my own network as well.

    I try to keep each PBN domain part of the same theme though. So for foodforthought.com I would ONLY post articles related to catering, or somehow make each article relevant to the topics of food or catering. I wouldn't do like,

    Article 1: Bicycles
    Article 2: Hard drive repair
    Article 3: Make money online

    etc...

    Some guys do this with there network, and don't make there PBNs about any particular niche in general. I think this could be a red flag in the future, I like to err on the side of absolute paranoia when it comes to what Google will do next. Hope that helps you a bit.

        There is no way of knowing based on the information given. Squadron was either confused by your question or wrong. Why? Well for one we do not know the anchor text for the links on this domain you will be buying. For two we do not know anything about your content or competition for your terms.

        You will probably rank higher than with a new site but enough to get traffic for your terms no one can answer.

    I think you would do better long term by not focusing solely on buying pagerank (PR5) since your niche is catering which is most likely local.

    Focus on buying expired local domains, anything related to food would be a plus. Any local domain with traffic would be even better, example, since your catering food look for backlink sources on local photography studio sites (just an example). My point is, people getting married hire photographers, those same people hire food caterers. So now you end up with local links (SEO) + direct niche traffic.

    Look for local catering businesses that have went out of business, research to see If they once had a domain, If they had a domain, buy it & 301 redirect back to your own money page/domain. Don't try to copy their old content, simply use it to move traffic/links back to your own domain.

    Just some examples, take some time & think of local link/traffic sources.
