multiple ccTLD or subdirectories for multilanguage sites?

I have content ready for a site that going to be in a couple different languages. I will also have some in the same language (English) but they are going to be regional.

Im now at the point where i have to decide how to put the site up with the different regions/languages. And what im deciding between is all sites on different ccTLD or using subderoctory/folders for each country and then geotarget them.

I need help deciding what would be the best choice. The pros/cons ive come up with so far is:

Pros of ccTLD
  • Can use seperate IP for all the sites
  • Link between the sites
  • Maybe some easier rankings
Cons of ccTLD
  • More expensive

Pros of subfolders
  • Cheaper
  • easier to manage
  • easier to build links to 1 site
Cons of subfolders
  • Servers will not be in the same country as visitors
Might not be ranking as well as ccTLD

My biggest concern is the linkbuilding.

It would be easier to build links to 1 site, but on the other side i could build links to 5 ccTLD and then kust link them together for some extra juice.

So anyone have any tips for me on the matter?

Google is smart enough to detect them all. I'd recommend running with the example.com/de/ format as it keeps all linkjuice focused on your primary domain.
