Something I didn't understand about backlinks

I read guides about backliks and I didn't understand something..
When I'm building backlinks to my site, should I do this to all the keywords I promote, or only for the main keyword?
my keywords is on a low competition (under 100,000 results on Google)

It should be a mix of keywords but I would build more for the main keyword. A lot of people will say 20 to 30% for your main keyword. Also I wouldn't judge the competition by the number of results alone.

try to diversify the anchor texts as much as possible. Use a mix of targeted keywords, generic keywords, raw URLs.

The trick is to use your main targeted keyword(s) on the quality links and use generics on low quality links.

Don't just stick to the main keyword, use its variations and also secondary keywords. BTW, are you sure its low competition with 10k searches on Google?
