subdirectories

Hello,

I have a domain:
mydomain.com

I have made some of sub-domains:

develop.mydomain.com
test.mydomain.com
production.mydomain.com

I made a sitemap for production.mydomain.com.

For mydomain.com, I do not have anything - no wordpress, no index.html, nothing at all.

What I was doing was linking mydomain.com to production.mydomain.com

The original idea was :
1. Create development (develop.mydomain.com)
2. Copy development to test for testing (test.mydomain.com)
3. Once testing was done, copy testing to production (production.mydomain.com)

I did not want to constantly make changes/develop on a production environment. I wanted to develop releases on different environments (or so was the original goal).

If I type:

site: mydomain.com

I see the following in the SERP:

Again, there is nothing associated with this domain. I linked mydomain.com to production.mydomain.com.

Is this a bad approach?

TIA
