Yoast works well and the Page Analysis tab will give you plenty of suggestions.

Follow them and you'll be ahead of most of your competition with the on-site SEO side of things.

The other half of the jigsaw is off-site SEO but setting up things right on your site will help that as well

The SEO Plugin by Yoast is more than enough for your WordPress site. Follow him for any on-site SEO related queries. That would be good enough,

For off-site SEO i would suggest Neil Patel. He is a frequent blogger and gives out some great tips on marketing your site and making the best of your site.

Nowadays I use only Yoast as plugin and I develop themes for my affiliate site myself. Most of the time the themes are designed with Authorbox, Extensive modification in comment section and google rich snippet settings. However Yoast is only one which has everything that I need to do for proper onpage SEO at this moment.

Yoast is good, the free version doesnt really cover everything. You can learn more on their website.
