which domain is best? Is .expert better?

I want to do an informational site about my topic which will hopefully become an authority page and drive traffic to my main site. I have a bunch of domains and I have no idea which one would be best for SEO.
without revealing my topic (it's really competitive!) I am substituting "sharks" for what my topic actually is.

I have:

Sharks.expert
allaboutsharks.com
justsharks.com

I have toyed with the idea of making all three informational sites but I need to start with one and really spend some time on excellent content. Does anyone know if google is giving preference to the .expert domains? Am I overthinking the actual domain name and as long as the content is good it doesnt matter? or does the .expert matter?

    What about .betterthanexpert?
  • Google is moving (or already moved) towards "Branding" domains. With that said, I think one of the bottom 2 sounds more like a "brand."

Or, how about sharkfreak or the sharkster or similar?

    • Can you elaborate on this further with "branding" domains?

What I've noticed is that in my category (for now anyway) google is favoring a lot of impartial blog articles, reviews, how-tos, and recipes. While there are tons of brands in this category, page one for this one keyword is a mixture of ecommerce sites and informational blogs that have 1 post on the topic and the rest of the blog is about something else. It would be interesting if they are moving away from this but I'd love if you could share more or where I can read more about it.
  • People are not "there" yet when it comes to accepting .expert domains (or any of the new gtlds).

I would stick to a .com for now, and only venture into new domains after you have established yourself as an actual expert, one that people will follow into uncharted territory.

    • I am already an expert with an established blog and ecommerce site and a brand name, a line of products and many years in my specialized field.

I am trying to now create a purely informational site about my niche - one that people may link to and bookmark as a source of further information.

My question is that assuming there is excellent content, what domain would google rank better (if google makes distinctions like that) as opposed to what people would like better visually.

  • I think if contents are well written unique and SEO friendly then you can use any domain name for it.
  • Any would do but I doubt the ".expert". Anyways, I would pick justsharks. I think it would be interesting. Moreover, just put your efforts on driving traffic.
