Hi there,

I've been browsing the forums for a while now on and off and trying to pick up as much as I can but could do with some help and advice.

I've recently started my first website - http://www.naildesignsforyou.com a month ago, and I could do with some advice in regards to, well.. everything. What could I do to improve SEO, link building, traffic etc. as I feel like I'm struggling a bit.

My main problem, as far as I can see it, is that I'm not getting enough traffic. I'm guessing that's a fairly common problem and I'm not the first to ask how to increase it. Currently I'm getting about 15-20 visitors per day, 500 or so in total this first month.

I'm fairly certain that my lack of traffic, for the most part anyway, is because I'm not ranking anywhere on Google for practically any keywords (nail designs, easy nail designs, cute nail designs, nail design ideas etc.) I'm getting a handful of people finding me from search engines but really I'm struggling to move up or even onto Google at all (and I've checked that I'm indexed).

I also don't feel like I'm very good at link building. I can't seem to find any opportunities aside from commenting on blogs and submitting to directory listings (which I now believe to possibly be a flawed method, from what I've read).

So far I've made 0.99p from Adsense (3 clicks) and £6.50 from Amazon referrals in the first month, which seems fairly pathetic to me, but seeing as I'm still so new to this then maybe in the first month that's not as terrible as it seems?

I'm not sure if I'd have more luck trying to promote something from ClickBank? Or sign up to something like MoreNiche which I've seen a few things about?

Another problem I suppose is that my website isn't up to much and the content not good enough. And I suppose my biggest problem might be that I've just chosen a pretty useless area or niche to focus on, that isn't going to pay very well and the competition is too high.. which would be a bummer.

Really just any advice on what I should do next to improve my earnings, traffic, SEO and anything else that jumps out to you that I'm struggling/failing with would be hugely appreciated. I realise a lot of these questions have been answered loads of times before in other threads but any specific advice for my current situation I would be extremely grateful for. As I said, I'm very new to all this, so be gentle!

Thanks!

(I hope I've posted this in the right place too!)

    Hi Omron,

You can go to youtube and google to look up High Traffic Academy to get free information on how to get a lot of traffic to your website and get more laser targeted buyers.

    Hope this will help you.

Have you considered trying to rank videos giving away some free content related to your niche on youtube, and then providing a link back to your web site in the video description? This could help you gain a lot more traffic to your site.

The bottom line is this. "Rome was not built in a day" if you are getting 500 visitors in your first month, you are doing better than alright, that is just short of outstanding.

The one thing that works the best for me is not just creating good content, but doing so in series. I noticed you have an article on "what are acrylic nails" You need to follow this right up with the "Applying acrylic nails tutorial" then "How to maintain your acrylic nails" "how to repair your acrylic nails" so on and so on.

Writing a 1 article on a subject is really not what google is looking for. They want to see a collection of material on the same subject. They want to see that maybe this site is of some value. Pumping out articles one right after the other that are connected by over all subject matter is not going to get you there. You need to focus on a SPECIFIC subject for a week, then the next and the next etc.

Below is an image of a search listing for a site I am involved with:

You will see that I have the #2 #3 and #4 spot. Looking at the #3 spot, you will see this is not just 1 page, but 4 total links So technically in the top five listings I have 6 spots.
This is the power of focused content development.
      Hope that Helps!

Thanks a lot for that, really helpful! And nice to know that 500 in the first month isn't as bad as I had thought.

Just a quick question - in the image you provided it shows the 4 links under 1 site. Is that something Google does automatically? So if I were to produce a lot of content around acrylic nails like you suggested, would Google group them all together like in your image on it's own, or do I need to ask it do so somehow. And if it's something that is done automatically, what is the likelihood or chances of it happening for my content, seeing as my site is still so new.

        Thanks again!

The multiple links are from a forum. Google groups related links from the same forum together, so all those links are threads in that forum the main link points to.

I would learn about "Long Tail Keywords" and write some posts about things people would be searching for online. Maybe some reviews of different nail polish, some top 10 lists like... best nail polish, best nail polish color for spring, yadayadayada.

Also, I think social media would be good for you... Pinterest and Instagram for sure. I think Pinterest would be a great place to post your stuff and drive traffic, very share-able and interesting content you have.

    Good luck!

You can do video tutorials, tips, tricks, reviews, advice, etc...

Post them on YouTube and put a link under your videos to pages on your site that are related. You also should post those videos on your page. That'll help drive traffic over the long term, and also will increase engagement on your site.

You can also run a Facebook ad to get more Facebook fans, you can target your audience based on interest and you can setup an ad for as little as 5 or 10 dollars to do that.

Another thing you can do is put together a short 10 to 15 page report that has images and how-to's in it. Set up an optin form on your page that gives away the report which will have links to your site and maybe a product you are selling. This will help build you a list of subscribers who you can email special offers and affiliate offers from time to time.

Those are a few things you can try.

I dont think your site looks too bad other than I wouldnt have those adsense banners right at the top. They are ruining the look of the place. Maybe put them in a lower position, but not yet, wait till your getting more traffic.
Learn about long tail keywords, there must be a ton of good ones in that niche. Keep adding content and BE PATIENT. I think you will do well

    @omron

Actually, having a well-defined niche (e.g. custom nails) can be a great asset for driving traffic. I think your website could rank high in Google if you had some high quality backlinks pointing to you.

I would recommend checking out some websites for free backlink trials. I know it will increase your SERP, just a matter of you taking aciton

My experience, before involving in forum discussion, better is to read some basics of SEO. I like MOZ that has a very good e-book on SEO. Start from there to get the basics.
