Websites recovering from Google penalties.

Looking around various SEO and Internet Marketing forums over the past few days there are many web site owners claiming to have recovered from Google penalties.

From speaking to a number of contacts that I know who previously had received an algorithmic penalty for using spam-like and/or unnatural link-building techniques this certainly seems to be the case for those who have taken action to rectify these mistakes.

Ever since Penguin arrived and started catching out websites who had joined dodgy link building networks, or used the services of short-term Black Hat SEO, I have been telling people to be patient and do things the right way and their rankings would return.

Many of these webmasters have painstakingly analysed their backlink portfolio's and then set about getting inappropriate links removed.

They have used the Google Disavow Tool to inform Google of any that they have been unsuccessful in removing, however they backed this up with evidence that they have taken reasonable steps to remove the links. (The Disavow tool itself is not a quick fix for past SEO mistakes).

As a "White Hat" SEO I would never employ bad SEO "Black Hat" practices for short-term gain. I know many SEO's that do, however Google moves fast and soon catches up and it's the client that suffers.

We have however, worked with a number of clients who have approached us after using such techniques and needing advice and help to get back in Google's good books and we are now seeing the fruits of our labour.
