I think so google is more widely used and targetted and people work for google more and its competitive as well so it will take time for you to get good results on google. It also depends on what type of keyword you are working. How much competitive it is and how well used daily.
    Thanks

If you make sure that your site is well optimized and keep building links, your site may climb up in Google too.

If it's too competitive keyword, you might need to keep building links for a long time... If that seems to be the case, I would start working on an other project or do something different with this site (like flip it ).

I think you have to get links from more domains instead of getting links from same domains, as well as do more DOFOLLOW blog commentings, as well as digg it and do some blogging too, Google loves all these and will bring you up...

Our site was reviewed on a very reputed site today, traffic is coming, so that made my day. I am sure that will bring some authority to our website

Our main keywords are very competitive, and there are approx 50,000,000 results just for those keywords, so it's not going to be easy, but it's getting there. Digging and social bookmarking is regular, but I am not sure how much it is helping? Is there anything else that I am missing?

Any critique about the onsite SEO of the website? Is there anything else we can improve on?

      Oh my

Google is the present synonym for search, so it's but natural that ranking with google is way tougher. Your not ranking high at the moment does not mean you are doing something wrong, it most likely implies that you need to work harder and in a more intensive manner.

Are you using Webmaster Tools in Google?

Get a Google Account and get into Webmaster Tools - it is free.

Upload your site map and then wait until your site gets hit by the Google Spider.

Then - if there are problems with your site - Webmaster Tools will show
    you where.

I'm having a hard time getting backlinks. Are there any tricks you guys use to get these? Everytime I do a search on google for a relevant blog, it shows up with nofollow.

It can happen. I've got sites that Yahoo loves that Google buries that have almost the same internal SEO optimizations and backlink structure as ones Google loves but Yahoo doesn't. The same is true of MSN Live/Bing. Basically the only significant difference is in the keywords used and a few incoming links.

Bottom line, don't worry too much about it and keep building your site and promoting it through strategic linkbuilding. In the long run, your rankings will improve across the board.

Thanks guys. I am seeing some improvement in rankings now. I was ranking well for long tail keywords before, but now it is showing the website for some (not many) small tail keywords as well. So, that's good.

I know google takes way longer than other search engines. My analytics show that although more people come from google, but is ranked in 2nd page or so. Yahoo brings less people but website is ranking well on the first page. Bing is also bringing in some traffic, not counting on it too much though. I guess as the backlinks increase, rankings will improve.

It does pay to create backlinks, articles writing etc. We are showing on the 3rd page now, for very competitive short tail keywords. Few weeks ago, we were on 6th page. Slowly and steadily .... targeting for first page :p
