Today (June 11th 2014) my website dropped from first page (2-3rd position) to the second page (11-15th position) after 1 year of ranking 1st page in Google...

I need your help, is there any thing I need to do to fix this rank drop ? Are there any algorithms ran today ?

Take a deep breadth and wait for some time. It is not a big deal. so have patience. If you keywords came from one page to second. some time it happens. check master tool if there is any message. I do not think that it is a big problem. tell me your website name.

    Thanks

I'm going to wait for the next 3 days and see if any thing happens.
I know that Google dance happens every time, but not after more than 1 year of 1st position rankings...
      Thanks

Open up Ahrefs and MajesticSEO to see if you gained or lost any backlinks.

Your site could have been link bombed by a competitor. Another important task is to start optimizing your pages for LONG TAIL KEYWORDS. These are the less searched keywords but all together account for the majority of your traffic.

    1. Go to Google Webmaster tools and open up Search Queries.
    2. Start optimizing for the long tail

That way, you have more easy to rank keywords sending you traffic so your aren't 100% dependent on the bigger keywords.

Wait for next 24 hours, I think you would regain your ranking. Same thing happened with me and I got my ranking back after 24 hours. FYI, Google keep testing new search algorithm (Google Panda) each month, that could be the reason behind sudden drop.

So wait for next 24 hours, if nothing happened then review your website for possible Google Panda penalty.

    Thanks all for your replies,

Since Panda 4.0 attacks low-quality content websites, I doubt about it, because my website contains no more than 5 pages + 300 words or less per page + the pages didn't get updated for more than 5 months now. Could this be the problem ?

Anyway, I'm going to wait for the next days, else I will inspect what's going on with the ranking (backlinks, onpage optimization, content or other...)

It could be content but I'd start with looking at your links.

Look for a loss of good quality links and incoming low quality links. More than likely that's the reason.

Check your banklinks and manually disavow any that appear spammy.

Disavow Tool is a last resort. If you find links that are spammy, you should try to have them removed. Do not just throw them in the Disavow Tool and hope for the best.

Actually, I was about to disavow my site with google's disavow tool but thought it might be a bit risky. I've recently lost my ranking all together and am now flying from page 4 to nowhere.
Every day seems to be different. Sometimes position # 84 then #77 down to no there at all to #50, it's quite the roller coaster.

I feel like some of my links i've built are being dropped due to the new updates. But, I don't know for sure. I don't pay for MajesticSeo or any other backlinking tool.
        I only use smallseotools/backlink-checker

I'm a bit too cheap for seo company like tools on a monthly subscription.

There's just not enough information to give any advice. Maybe Google has changed something, or maybe you changed something on the site. It's also possible that competition just simply got ahead of your site.

Do you have any idea when this happened exactly?

What kind of tool have you used to track the rankings? If it's just a browser, have you made sure that Google wasn't showing personalized results in the past?

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

It could be a Google Dance. Just wait for some days and if nothing changes, just be sure to add new content and possibly build a few good backlinks!

I doubt it is google dance, it could be but very unlikely because the dance doesn't happen for a site ranking for a whole year.

There are a few reasons that could have happened that resulted in this

    1. Some of your high quality backlinks got lost, even just a one high quality one will matter. However, this will result in a dance and you should be back IF YOU HAVE build backlinks to the page itself than just the main domain. This is very likely and i think what happened

    2. Your competitors upped their game and scored more Google points than you to earn your spot. Google will dance in this case to decide where to place you.

    3. I am not sure whats it called and if it comes under link velocity. Throw a link even a low quality one at your pages even if they are ranking #1-#3 from time to time. I had a page at #3 position, months later i just added a low quality forum link to it, its now sitting at #2 even surpassed the annoying youtube video that was above it. I think it tells google that the result is good and people are linking to it. So if you stopped throwing links at it, that is probably the reason.

    4. You got hit by any of the crappy animal names google use for their updates. If this is the case, you should see your rank dropping to page 2 then 3 then to oblivion. I doubt this is the case.

What you need to do ? send a link to your page, doesn't have to be high quality. Don't change anything on-site. If its just google dance, that link will let google know you're still good for that position.

Oh and it could be someone doing negative seo to your site but if thats the case you should expect losing rank for a lot more keywords. Use majestic or ahrefs (you don't need to pay for checking out one site) and see if your backlink numbers has increased exponentially.

Just continue to build some high PR backlinks and do social media marketing. Focus on getting authority figures in your niche to discuss and share your topic on social media.

Also find out if there's a penalty by checking with Webmaster tools.

If you didn't do anything special, then it could just be a result of competitors performing steady SEO efforts better than yours while you did not maintain your SEO efforts.

Hey Guys ! Good News !

I recovered from the Panda 4.0 (or Penguin 2.1) penalty, here's what I did exactly:

    1. I re-optimized my internal pages

    2. I bough a High Quality SEO Package from Top SEO Service

Which shot my website again to the 1st page !!!
