i currently have campaigns running that had a quality score of 10/10 for the last 3 months and then this morning i woke up and found that my ads were not getting shown and this is because google have dropped my QS on all my campaigns to 1/10. For me to get my ads showing again i need to work on my SEO of the landing page to make the keywords more specific to the landing page.(this is what i think needs to happen). Also the keywords i am targeting are very long tail keywords, my CTR is between 0.10 and 0.40 do u think i need to get this improved as is this maybe the reason why i have been dropped by google? once i have fixed the SEO problem, do i need to relaunch the website on a different domain name and relaunch the advertising campaigns under a different account? i really dont want to have to do that. i am wounding if google will let me run the ads once i have made the SEO changes and launched the ad campaigns in my existing account? thanks heaps everyone for ur input.

Also im runing one keyword per adgroup. and each keywork is phrase and exact match, im not using broad.

aslo for tracking purposes, i have made multiple copies of the website and insertied my tacking coded into each separate page and then but the pages in its own sub directory, would google class this as duplicate content and if so does this have any effect on PPC?

many thanks

People need to understand that QS is mostly tied to your CTR as well as the CTR of your competitors. There are many other factors as well such as landing page, but the weight is very small.

Dropping from 10 to 1 in QS is a bummer. You say you have a CTR of at most 0.4%. I assume that's search since QS does not (yet) apply to the content network. That's very low CTR and in the old days, your ads would not be shown for failing the minimum CTR requirement.

Without seeing your campaign, I put the blame on poor ads resulting in poor CTR. Google has revised your QS having passed some threshold of impressions. So create better ads. I don't suggest putting your time yet working on your page. I have many high QS on keywords that did not appear anywhere on the landing page, although the theme of the page match the keywords.

As for new domain/account, there is no need for that. It also won't solve your problem by just copying. Your problem is almost for sure with your ads.

Thanks heaps for that, it is a really big help. when i relaunch my campaing in my same account with same domain name, should i start up new campaigns so that the ads get shown straight away without a manual review, or should i just update my existing camps?

also i have duplicated the landing page for each keyword i have so that i can insert a tracking id for each page. would this effect the low QS due to duplicate content? not sure if u will understand what i mean.

thanks heaps for the advice and help.

No need to start a new campaign or group. Simply create new ads to test in your current campaign. 90% of managing a campaign is doing just that: testing different ads.

As far as I know, there is no QS penalty for duplicate content. The most important factor in quality score is your CTR relative to competitors for that position. Therefore, a QS of 1 means that almost everybody else has a better CTR than you. Doesn't matter what your CTR is, it could be 1% or 5%. It means that compared to them, your ad is poor.

Hey thanks heaps for you great advice and help in this matter. once i have done up different adds for my existing campaigns, how long should it take before Google re assesses my QS and starts showing my ads? i have just changed a few of them and am now testing to see if google changes the QS so i can get my ads shown again. do i need to ask them to re evealuate my account or does it happen automaticly?

      many thanks again

If your QS went from 10 to 1 its not because of CTR or any other normal criteria. It's a penalty. It was most certainly a planned manual review and in general it means Google doesn't like your offer and/or your promotion method. It happens mainly with affiliate sites and dishonest products like "free trials", where the customer gets mostly a bad product on a rebill procedure, while thinking he gets it for free. You see, the most important strategy for Google is to keep their searchers happy at all costs.

If you have your own site, often the reason is that your landingpage is not providing value on its own and works as a "bridge page" to an affiliate offer. Value is not seen as a short review.

If you have your own product and its not an affiliate site, then you most certainly did something wrong regarding their TOS. For instance collecting data without giving a right privacy policy.

It is interesting to get the reason why it happens and you could write a polite email to your support or call. But the general advice is to start over with a new domain, and dont make the same mistakes again. If you are for instance promoting cpa offers you might just start again and expect to see a slap in some weeks.

What happens with many cpa/affiliate promos at the moment is basically a joke since you see a new domain and an offer, after 3-4 weeks it gets slapped and there it is again with a new domain and the process repeats itself. I think Google will soon be smart enough to avoid those kind of affiliate offers altogether, much to the dispair of the CPA networks.

      Hey Narayan

thanks heaps for the great reply. i have take alook at my complete site and landing pages for each add and realised that they could very easly come across as bridge pages. i have decieded to re build my site completely to provide my readers with very good quality contect so that i can get a better qs. the one thing i am having alot of trouble with is negitive keywords.

i have been getting about 80 - 100 clicks a day on my camp that im running that got slapped. i find that im getting 1000's of impressions a day and im running the kw for only phrase and exact match. the keywords are all very long tailed keywords such as model names (Garmin nüvi 680 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Automobile) i have added a couple of negative kw but im just not sure what neg kw i should add now as i think there is no way 1000's of ppl are looking for this search term exactly or phrase a day. could you please give me some assistance to what i should add for neg kw?? also my average ad position is 2 so i know that if ppl where exactly looking for that search term they would click through to it. any help would be muchly appreciated

I'm surprised you are getting that many impressions on such a long keyword. It may also be part of your problem in that you don't have enough of them in your ad. Try shorted tailed like "garmin nuvi 680 gps". I can't think of any negatives for this as it's pretty specific. What are the negatives you are using?

I'm also confused about your CTR. In your original post, you mention 0.1% and your last, you say 80-100 clicks in 1000 impressions which would be 8-10%.

hey, i meant that i was getting 80 - 100 clicks per day and i am getting 1000's of impressions (like 20,000 a day) i have looked into this more and i think i am getting alot of impressions from search partners. i have predicted that if i switch off search partners my CTR will increase alot. do u guys ever have much sucess with search partners? i can only think that if i had them turned off i would increase my CTR but hopefully i dont lose sales from it

has anyone had much experience iwth this?

    Sorry, I missed the 's.

Yes, if you are getting poor results from search partners, it would be wise to turn that off. In general, I found traffic from search partners has lower CTR and lower conversions. When the reverse is true, I wish we could have search partner campaigns only. I also wish that Google would show data for each in the reports. That would go a long way in optimizing a campaign.

It sounds to me as if you are using the content network along with search? This would explain the many impressions since the content network works completely different from search.

In short: While search (and search partners) uses the very keywords and matchtypes (exact, phrase, broad), content only uses broad and makes a "theme" of your keywords, trying to match this theme with it's adsense publisher sites.

Never mix search with content network! Create two different campaigns for them.

You can check your networks by showing them in the overview top left, and of course in the campaign settings.

        Ugh...I feel your pain...

I just got whacked on a campaign that had an average 12% CTR (Campaign Wide) yet got slapped when I went in to readjust my bid position from wide open to just 4 thru 7. My Conversion rate to opt-in was hovering around 42% too...

Prior to this all QS's were "Great" so go figure....

I went from $200.00 profit per day to ZERO for what I don't know yet...UGH!!!

Sittin' scratchin' my head at the moment, time to regroup I guess...Also waiting to hear back from a Goog' Rep.....

This wondering crap is getting old, maybe there is something to that SEO crap huh? ....
