I am seeing some huge boosts in rankings for my Amazon affiliate sitesall of a sudden.

Do have to add that I went through some drastic changes in the last few days but I think there's more to it then just that.

Just for your info what I did, in case it might be that:

- Switched to non affiliate, well SEO optimized theme

- Reduced affiliate links with one batch of sites to just 5 on the homepage (and none on other pages) and the other batch of sites to just 1 affiliate link on the bottom of 10 product review pages, none on the other 12 pages.

- Set my top 5 page as static homepage and thus it redirects to the homepage which is now optimized for multiple main keywords, eg: best lawn mower / lawn mower reviews

Have to add that my affiliate sites are quite solid, 10 review pages + 10 informative pages so it's not like some heavily affiliate link stuffed site, and neither is it very thin.

I did see that this recent update affected some sites of clients in a negative way, these sites were the most crappy 1 page clickbank sites I ever saw so not that surprised.

Clicks to Amazon doubled but there's a lot of split testing to do and the sales conversion is real low at the moment but that's probably just variance.

You haven't been on Skype in ages Nik0!

My primary Amazon site has shot-up in the rankings if you check it. Dropped randomly down to #11, then shot up to #1 in UK, #2 in USA. Here's to #1 in USA!

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Your site received those 10 perm PR3 links about 3-4 days ago so that might've caused the initial drop and boost.

I am on holiday in Cambodia now so a bit too busy for Skype.

Visited the killing fields and genocide museum here, they have a tour around the mass graves and you get a sound player + headphone. Quite shocking and depressing to hear the whole story in detail. The former camp is based outside Phnom Pehn, about 15km, then you also see how the people live outside the big city. 6-8 year old boys carrying huge bags filled with plastic bottles and/or cans to sell for a few nickels. Young kids messing around in a pile of garbage, probably also to collect stuff.

Completely different then what I've seen in the last 1.5 years in Thailand, here in Cambodia you get to see what real poverty is.

Cambodia seems doomed somehow, first the pol pot misery and now the government consists of mostly people who ruled under pol pot back then with the worse prime minister a country can wish for. Selling all the land to foreign companies to such degree that about half of the land is sold already. Same government for last 25 years due to corruption that go's as far as election vote fraud. Everyone hates the PM and still they win the elections every single time.

Tomorrow I'm heading to the south, Sihanoukville which is on the coast and beer for $0,50 for a draft, now that's a good deal!

It's alright living the rich life, ain't it?

I'm starting my new job Monday.. So nice to see my Amazon sites take off again for the supplemental income. It's already averaging about £15 a day now. Once I take #1 in USA, that'll crop up to around £40/day again I assume - possibly more.

Yeah, I noticed the links in AHREFS. Perhaps they contributed to it.. Still, I'm going to keep expanding my PBN next month just to make sure I can hit #1. Everybody and their dog has a PBN now.

Yep and the ridiculous pricing reflects it. I used to build PBNs for people but its just gotten too outrageous now. People even buy up the junk nowadays. PR3s are going for what PR4s used to go for even some weak ones. Now I only rent ones - not rent links but as PBNs.

Sorry to derail the thread...You can go back to talking about cambodia and lady boys now

I still use my broker and prices didn't change much, however the list gets shorter by the day, in the past I could easily buy a few dozen domains in bulk, now often not more then a handful or a dozen when I add in the $200-$250 costing PR4's,

Normally I could get dropped PR4's for $70,- but those are extreme rare now.

It's ridiculous. I took a 1-yr break from affiliate marketing to focus on my digital marketing career. Back then, my PBN was considered the creme de la creme. PR4-PR6 domains, backed up a strong Tier 2 network of PR3-PR6 sites.

I had around 15 sites in my tier 1 network, so all my Amazon sites received around 15-links.

I would hit #1 in a matter of weeks, and have absolutely no competition. My competition was toptenreviews who got beat easily.

Now, I have a Tier 1 network of around 35 PBN sites, and a Tier 2 network of around 20 sites. This just isn't enough... I'm glad I focused on my career and let affiliate marketing lay dorment - because affiliate marketing ain't going to be "easy money" for much longer. There's too many people in the industry, and there's nothing unique to do. You can't compete against a PBN by traditional digital marketing (outreach, broken link building, media etc). The reason being is that time = money. It would be a full-time job digitally marketing my Amazon site, and it wouldn't earn me the same amount of ££ as a full-time job in digital marketing.

And so, the only way to compete is to have a "bigger" and "better" PBN than your competitors. And then, you run the risk of being deindexed by Google 12-months later - so it's never long-term.

I'd heavily suggest affiliate marketers start focusing on their careers. I've just landed a big job at an international corporate company leading up their digital marketing strategy. In 30-years, my career will probably net me £80k-£100k a year if I manage to hold onto managerial positions. That for me is 5x the average UK wage and something I'm happy with.

But don't get me wrong. Bringing in an extra £1k-£3k a month from Amazon for little to no work is nice - but I get the feeling it's going to get HARDER and HARDER going into 2015. You either take up affiliate marketing as a full-time job or forget about it, and for me, I can't take that risk. I don't want to be around when Google's algorithms become so complex that building your own links don't work anymore - because so many affiliate marketers will have their lives ruined. For me, it's much more stable and safe to do it as a hobby.

And so, this month I will continue building my PBN. I will play the "dirty game". Luckily, I know of a few TLD's that are out of reach for the mass - making them easy to find and acquire for me. I can regularly pick up PR3 domains for $20 a pop. If I salvage their pagerank and funnel them through to my Tier 1 sites, which in turn funnel juice to my Amazon sites, I'll eventually beat my competitors.

It sure is, though I'm not rich in the sense of millions in the bank, or anywhere close to that but definitely can't complain with my monthly income. Does make me feel a bit uncomfortable when driving through the extreme poorness in this country.

Good luck with the job, seems like an interesting one where you can really apply what you learned in uni.

You should be able to break #1 with a few dozen more domains.
