Help: How do I find blogs to comment on to make some backlinks?

There is an excellent tool called Google that allows you to search the entire internet. I use it daily.

Set a google alert for your keyword, comprehensive, as it happens. Get it in feed form for convenience. Also do a Google blog search for your keywords, sort by date, and get the feed for that too. It's not for blogs, but you can also get a keyword targeted feed of date-sorted forum threads at boardtracker.com.

Any time anyone posts anything about your topics, reply, contribute, and backlink.

Also, if you reblog commentary on other blogs in your niche, you can get automatic trackbacks and pingbacks. To sniff out the blogs where this happens, I post RSS excerpt content in carnival form on my blog as "related stories".

Then, when I see I've gotten an automated backlink from a certain blog by chance, I'll put them in a list and mention that blog on my other properties as well as focus some comments on those.

That's basically what I do, and it works really well. If you can't find blogs in your niche to comment on, just find ANY post on ANY blog that's related. And if you can't find that, then go after high traffic blogs that are unrelated to yours and contribute to their content, and only backlink to yourself in the comment or comment ID. That way, you'll at least get some indexing action when the high traffic blog gets crawled, even if it's not in your niche.

I've found most of the online magazines that I follow tend to have multiple blogs associated with it like WIRED and those techy mags

If you aim for PR juice, do follow social bookmarking sites/blog sites is where you should concentrate, though it's very tedious in determining what sites offer do-follow and no-follow links.

Just search for "dofollow blogs" in google, there is sites that will give you 1k+ of such blogs if you subscribe for free. Or use a firefox, there was a plugin for it. (for seeing link type). Don't remember how it's called though.

Don't worry about Do-Follow or not. Just make relevent comments on related blogs and you will be fine.
