How to Recover from Negative SEO ?

Guys I really need your help,

Recently my website rank dropped about 10 positions for every keyword,
I did my research and found a newly created website trying to rank for the same keywords I'm targeting,
Also the website is using my 'unique' long-tail keyword in the title tag.
I doubt a lot that the webmaster of this website is targeting my website with negative SEO (bad low quality backlinks) and different other styles.

Please let me know How can I recover from this attack,
Should I re-optimize my keywords and change title & heading tags for better keywords?

Thanks in advance

  • Have you used any spam link building techniques yourself?

Have a quick look in any backlink tool and it will show you what backlinks you have where they are coming from.

No I didn't use any spam link building, and all link discovery tools show that the website didn't get any backlinks recently... That's what made me think again...
Is there any other reasons of rank drop you think?

        check webmaster tools

also have a look at analytics to see if anything strange is popping up

could just be a minor blips in your rankings as something adjusts at Google. Give it a week and report back

I already gave it more than 10 days now, the problem seems persisting,
In Google Analytics: Big drop from Organic traffic
In Google Webmasters: Drop in keyword rankings, no alerts or manual penalty...

I'm getting frustrated a lot now...

Should I try to re-optimize the onpage seo for another keyword?

No i didn't. Just because a new website popped up ranking for same keyword doesn't mean you got hit with negative seo.

Look at your backlinks, is there lots of junk pointing at your site all of a sudden...NO ?. Then you aren't hit with negative seo.

The new site could be using better links than you that is why it is ranking higher than you now. 10 more sites improve their backlinks to try to rank for the keyword with far better links than you, you will be completely gone off the first page but that isn't called negative seo.

What you need to do is build some high quality backlinks and your ranking should improve.

It is pretty hard to help without knowing the URL. I know, everyon's site is private or secret or something. but if you want help, then you have to let people see what is up as it could be hundreds of things.

Are you keyword linking, not good? Keyword links should be kept to a minimum and mostly brand and URL variations should be top of the list got links.

Hundreds of other stuff could be wrong, but who knows.

Check your back links of your site weather it is good or looks like a spamy. If you feel that some backlinks a like a spamy, create a database of that kind of back link and submit it on SE by web master tool.
May be it will help you that stop your website to get down.

Discovery tools can take a little while to show new links, as their crawlers aren't as efficient as Google's. It can also take a little while for new links to appear in Webmaster tools. I'd recommend taking a look at your existing link profile and clean up whatever you can until the newest links, that may be effecting your rank, appear in your discovery tools.

You may be seeing a lot of strange links in your backlink reports but unless you’re looking at thousands of different hosts (root domains and subdomains) you’re not being targeted for negative SEO. The fact that a sitewide link on a 90,000-page Website suddenly appears doesn’t mean you’re being hit by a negative SEO campaign.

It could be that some idiot who doesn’t know what he is doing is trying to knock you out of the SERPs. You may see only hundreds instead of tens of thousands of naughty links coming around. In that case you should be okay. Just file a Disavow Request with Bing and Google and explain to them what you think is going on.

If the negative SEO campaign is well designed it’s targeting specific types of anchor text. A brutal negative SEO campaign may try to associate your Website with a lot of irrelevant keywords. This is good to know. You can point it out when you contact the search engines.
