As you can see on the top image, the search results shows a snippet on the top part before the organic search.

What I want to know is, how google showing that kind of result? Can I do that kind of stuff on my website?

Thanks Warriors

The above website is listed in DMOZ hence listed like that. If you get approved in DMOZ for any other keywords then you might be getting listed like this. However no one can guarantee DMOZ approval or your site to list in search results like this.

One more thing, if all the important info are revealed before they reach your site, then you might not get visitors. So I will not give much importance to get a rankings like this. Instead focus on ranking for low competition keywords which will yield you fast and better ROI.

Its this new thing google is trying, same for some videos. See that feedback button ?

imo it sucks because this will completely destroy small sites and businesses who don't know anything about seo and sites. It won't even matter if you are on the first page or even second position, that huge box shoved at searchers face shows trust from google meaning higher clicks from visitors, its 1st and its big.

Google must be doing very bad with adwords because this is probably their way of forcing small site owners to use their ad platform or vanish.

When you click the feedback button, It will prompt an answer box that will let you to choose if it's, Awesome, Incorrect, Not relevant, Something else

As a novice user, I'll give 5star rating to this answer box as user is getting answer of the question without any further clicks but as marketer I would say no as it'll destroy the website traffic.

Actually, they are making record profits with AdWords.

This kind of result is simply giving users exactly what they are looking for. It is not to force anyone into AdWords. I doubt anyone is bidding on how to boil an egg.

I'm going to test this on another niche besides recipes & see what happens.

This could also be a temporary thing Google is testing.

That is something called data of google knowledge graph. Some rich snippets are really helpful to figure out what exactly a particular URL is all about. I think that this is the best move to get a brief knowledge about the things to be searched for.

Here's a couple more examples for comparison:

Notice the search query trend is How to... which is most likely part of Hummingbird.

This doesn't look like the structured data used on most knowledge graph SERPs. Each of the 3 examples are sloppy as far as the HTML source code goes.

Maybe people just search for different things. I search all the time for things that appear
like that: Date, time, minutes to kickoff, sundown, F to C, and yes I have searched for
a quick recipe. Google has a plethora of just absolutely stunning things that you can do
to their search. Anyone have the pleasure of searching for:

        do a barrel roll

        Okay, that's just for fun.

        How about

        world cup results

I'm sure that's getting plenty of play....

I can also assume you have never looked up the definition of a word either.
You can search for flight details with the flight number, local time, weather,
        etc.

But you also need to realize that showing that recipe does nothing for the site.

I think google tries to combat spam this way. One could make a site out of
some idiotic EMD just for those questions. But that's not what google likes to
do. They like to answer your question if they can.

Since very few will read this whole post, I will show you the best google search trick
around, at least for me. Type in cache: followed by a paid site page that is indexed
by google. That is, if you have read more than your allotted free articles on say NYT,
just copy the url, put it after cache: and see if google has it cached. You can
also do with the google translate url.

That also will point out to people that you cannot always hide pages from people.

The list of google search tricks and tips is endless. It's one reason why "google it"
has such a following. Nobody comes close.

Answering the users question on google's search page takes away from sites that provide the answer and may have adsense on their pages. Not sure why google does this because if the top sites do contain adsense ads, they are losing revenue because the fewer people that navigate to the adsense sites, the fewer views and potential clicks.

The SERP recipe that's shown in OP has ellipsis (...) after some of the recipe text which forces search traffic to visit the ranked webpage If they want the full recipe. Traffic only gets the full recipe from the ranked page/site.

Also descriptive images for the recipe/how-to... are only shown on the ranked webpage which helps make sense of the recipe/how-to...

Nobody is losing any money, If anything they're getting a better CTR from traffic that wants the full content (recipe). Those webmasters could even have a 50% content locker for a paid subscription If they wanted.

I'm not talking about this specific example, but others things google does provide the exact answer to and the top of the search page, like temperature conversions.
