Learning SEO. Where to start?

I want to learn SEO. I understand the importance of great content, but beyond that....where should I go to learn today's SEO. There is tons of free information online but because of so many changes, it's hard for a newbie to figure out where to start.

I know each website has a unique strategy but ideally I'd like to find training that has a basic workflow that can be adaptable.

Any suggestions? Anyone needing help with their SEO workload willing to exchange your knowledge for work? (White hat only please)

I really appreciate you that you are taking interest in learning SEO. But there is not a single tutorial that can teach you. Reason is when you finish your study you will found another update from Google.

You can try Webmaster World, the oldest forums on topics related web marketing and SEO. Real webmasters are sharing their experience and it could be helpful. Other resources could be blogs like SEO by the Sea and SEO Book.

You have to prefer some books to read more about SEO, or if you have initial knowledge about SEO than start with easy techniques like forum posting, social bookmarking, image backlink etc. If you have any doubt then you can also ask questions on niche related forums and QnA sites.

    Try these books

    1. The Link Building Book; by: Paddy Moogan

This is one of the most recent SEO books to surface and it was written by the leading industry expert Paddy Moogan, who works for the highly-acclaimed website Distilled. He writes 287 pages all about link building.

    2. Optimize: How to Attract and Engage More Customers by Integrating SEO, Social Media, and Content Marketing by: Lee Odden

I always feel as though the author has a strong handle on everything he chooses to write. This book does a good job of bringing in all of the aspects under the SEO umbrella and explaining how they should work together to really create success.

One quick advice - learn by testing. Start applying SEO to your blog/website as soon as possible - no matter how "newbie" you are.

You can obvioulsly take classes and learn the tricks of the trade, but I think the best way to learn it is by reverse engineering the success of high ranking sites that are comparitively new.

There have been a lot of changes in SEO. The updates that have happen are about helping Google to eradicate bad sites spammy sites, really Google is trying to make sure they provide revelant quality results and not sites made to earn income.

Now more than ever the right back link profile is important you need to show that you are not trying to seo your site.

Where you get your backlinks matter, the stronger the page authority of the site the stronger the back link you can get.

Your on-page must be right. You can over optimized for your primary keyword.

Less is more this applies to back links anchor text and on-page seo

    Hope that helped

This is just my input some might and some might not agree I don't really care, all I know is that it's pretty sound and straight forward advice with no affiliate links involved.

Here is what I learned from all the SEO courses and products on the internet, I read a whole lot for a whole lot of time, I talked a whole lot about SEO for a whole lot of time, and I knew **** all about SEO for a whole lot of time, until I actually implemented any of what I had learned.

If you don't implement anything of what you have been studying even if you have been learning for years, well then you really don't know anything about anything. What you really only know how to do is repeat what you read in a book, and it's what I did for a long time, this was due only to lack of funds to implement anything without having to outsource tasks for $$$$. plus the proper knowledge needed to move forward in those areas I was weak.

So based on a broke as a joke scenario like I was in, here is what you could do to achieve better results while saving tonns in costs and actively gaining SEO knowledge.

1.) Go buy 2 domains in the niche you wish to tackle you can buy domains for 1 cent for the first year from 1and1.com it's about $14 the 2nd year "SCORE"

2.) Get yourself free hosting by searching "allintitle:free hosting" without the "" and sign up to which ever free hosting providers have wordpress quick install scripts or similar if your a complete newb like I was.

3.) Don't make the mistake of associating any of these properties with your real identity, that google know you as, why ? because if you think google isn't watching past and future habit's of a google user account and they only have your best interest at heart (o^^0)
don't even bother trying to learn SEO.

4.) This should be first along with proper keyword research ! Make sure you pick a niche you are knowledgeable about as it will make life much easier and the learning path enjoyable and more productive in you gaining knowledge/traction if that's not an option pick something you are closely related to in some way.

5.) Now go ******* mad and break every rule in the book with one of the sites "literally" And with the other follow the rules of the gestapo "google police" make sure to track everything you implement on both sites noting anything you did to gain links and traffic. You can use free tools like ranktracker free, wordpress stats by jetpack, Histats, and a thousand others.

Now I'm not claiming you will have success doing this but I will claim you will know more than most SEO guys/gals that have just implemented only one tactic. There is no such thing as blackhat or white hat "to the white hat claimers" there is only an algorithm, google/bing/yahoo, links, userability and the individuals skills to implement the area of SEO that suits the outcome they desire.

    Good Luck

Completely agree with you My two cents-

Don't forget about "implementation" part of whatever you are learning. Test strategies by yourself and see how it goes. That's the best way of learning in my opinion.

I think it's the core of why most people give up, they spend most of their time reading and picking up various tactics for too long, and when they actually implement any of it and it doesn't work for them they give up after 5 mins Lol sometimes I wanna give up too but that is impossible now I stuck my head too far down the rabbit hole to turn back

There used to be sticky threads around WF for the SEO basics. If you have no problem creating quality content in a consistent basis, and you are open to repurposing content you have created, check the case study I have in my website jaysonguevarra.com. The strategy discussed there may be slower than most, but the effects have been long term.

I'll tell you right now that you'll want to think twice before investing yourself into SEO.
It's a volatile industry with a steep learning curve that involves trying to hit a moving target.
Marketing is like that in nature, and digital marketing moves even faster.
I'll also tell you that SEO is far more difficult now than it was when I started in 2011.
Think this decision over long and hard, because it's straight up addictive as well.
